Best 4 Person Tent For Car Camping

I have reviewed so many tents during the year and it is time to ask myself: what would be the best 4 person tent for car camping for the coming season? So here I give really great options to consider.

What is included

As the title suggests, the list includes tents that are not lightweight enough to be used as hiking or backpacking tools and carried attached to the backpack. So in principle, these tents need a car or any other means of transportation to get them to the camping spot. This can also include a motorbike, a bicycle, a kayak, etc. But you will realize that some of them are quite lightweight.

Such tents are usually more comfortable than those ultra-lightweight tents, and the features of the tents in the list include the following:

• Lots of volume inside.
• Windows.
• High ceiling.
• In some cases instant setup.

Regarding the type, you have the following tents in the group: instant tents, cabin-type tents, A-frame type tent, you have tunnel type and dome tents.

Regarding the price, the differences are drastic. You have the tents roughly in the range of $50 – $500.

Regarding the weather resistance, some of the tents are typical summer-type tools, while others are built to protect you from everything that Mother Nature can throw on you in a 3-season use. Here, you are supposed to do some compromises. For example, very tall walls, huge windows, and a minimal fly do not go hand in hand with an excellent protection.

So you might ask why such a variety. This is on purpose, the list includes very different tents regarding the type and price, for everybody’s taste and pocket, and for various purposes.

1. NTK Proxy 4 Instant Dome Family Camping Tent

The official name of this tent is NTK Proxy 4 Instant Dome Family Camping Tent but this is a cabin-style instant tent for 3 seasons, with a full-coverage fly for complete protection from elements. I have included it also in my list of best 4 person cabin type tents.

The inner area is relatively small with its 49 ft² (4.5 m²), but there is a large vestibule plus the awning shown in the picture. The weight is 19.58 lb (8.88 kg).

The poles are fiberglass, and the fabric is with a very good waterproof rating. The tent is ventilated, you have 2 vents on the vestibule, and the picture above shows one of the two windows on the fly. You will want to know that the tent is incredibly affordable.

2. Ayamaya Pop Up Tent with Vestibule

This Ayamaya Pop Up Tent with Vestibule is what its name says, an instant-setup tent. You literally throw it in the air and it will automatically spread and open. After that, you only have to stake it to the ground.

This is a 2-layer tent and the inner tent is permanently attached to the shell. The frame consists of fiberglass elastic poles that are sewn into the sleeves that you see in the picture.

As the name tells you, the tent has a vestibule with a linked-in floor. All in all, this is a quite unique tent, with 2 windows on the fly and you have access to them from inside. There is an e-cable port, and you will want to know that the price is very reasonable. The inner area is 5 m² (54 ft²) and the vestibule area is around 1.5 m² (16 ft²).

3. MOON LENCE Pop Up Tent

This MOON LENCE Pop Up Tent is a family camping item or for car camping in general. This is a portable instant construction that you can have ready in seconds. So if you change place frequently, this is a tent to consider.

The tent is a simple dome structure but with two doors and two windows, it is also nicely ventilated with its two floor vents. The official capacity is 4 people, and for this you have an area of 53.8 ft² (5 m²). The tent weighs 10.8 lb (4.9 kg), and it is very affordable.

4. MSR Elixir 4-Person Lightweight Backpacking Tent

The manufacturer (MSR) of this tent uses the word ‘backpacking’ in its name and this is why I am using it here, but this tent is a bit too heavy for the trail, it weighs 9 lb 6 oz (4.26 kg). So indeed, if you need something for backpacking, better check some of these 4-person backpacking tents.

I see this Elixir 4 tent better suited as a camping tent in all situations where you would not carry it in the backpack. But the true reason for having it in the list here is just that I trust this brand, so I am convinced this is a very reliable tent that will protect you in any weather conditions in a 3-season use. In any case, this is the improved 2018 version of the tent that has been around for a number of years already.

The area is 54 ft² (5 m²) and there are also two vestibules that add some protected space for the gear, in total 24.5 ft² (2.3 m²). The poles are quality aluminum 7000 series, you have two doors and two vestibules, and the waterproof rating is 3000 mm for the floor and 1500 mm for the fly. 5. Naturehike Village 5 Roof Automatic Tent

The Naturehike Village 5 Roof Automatic Tent stands out as an impressive cabin-style tent with a unique design featuring straight, steep walls and a house-like roof.

Offering generous internal volume, the tent is equipped with a full coverage fly, aluminum poles, and an impressive waterproof rating of 3000 mm for durability and weather resistance.

Despite being labeled “automatic,” it’s important to clarify that this refers to the all-in-one-piece frame, not an instant setup. The assembly process involves attaching leg poles and securing the tent to the frame, emphasizing user-friendly assembly.

With two doors, vestibules, and multiple windows, the tent prioritizes ventilation and adapts to diverse weather conditions.

The inner floored area here is 53.8 ft² (5 m²). The included awning configuration extends the living space, making it a comfortable choice for campers.

While the tent is on the heavier side at 30.86 lbs and has a bulky packed size, its exceptional build quality and unique features make it a recommended option for those seeking a reliable and spacious camping shelter.

6. Slumberjack Slumber Shack 4 Tent

This tent offers a relatively small floor area of 55 ft² (5.1 m²), but it has a huge awning covers additional 69 ft² (6.4 m²). The tent is versatile and very tall, the peak height is incredible 83 in (211 cm).

It can be used on its own, or attached to a car as shown in the picture and this means that the mentioned awning can be used in various ways. This is a single layer design and the fabric is durable. The weight is 19 lb (8.6 kg).

7. Coleman Instant 4 Person Camping Tent 

This is a cabin-type tent and an instant tent with an express setup under 1 minute and with an incredible price tag. So it is a unique tent on the list. Note this it is single-layer everywhere except on the windows and the door where you have a mesh plus panel for rain protection and privacy.

As you realize from the specifications, this is a very tall tent, and with a great weight.

8. Coleman 4-Person Dark Room Skydome Camping Tent

This Coleman 4-Person Dark Room Skydome Camping Tent is a new tent from this brand, and this is one out of many tents they built with a dark-rest technology. They claim it blocks sunlight up to 90%.

This is a fully freestanding tent, very easy to use, with steep walls and with a window on the front. The poles are fiberglass and the tent is very affordable. The weight is 12.2 lb (5.53 kg) and the area is 56 ft² (5.2 m²).

9. Core 4 Person Instant Cabin Performance Tent

So here you have the smallest tent from their new series. The tent is a fully freestanding and pleasant cabin-type shelter with large windows. The fly is overhanging, and this is what they call the Extended Eave Technology.

From the name you realize it is also very easy to use because the frame is pre-attached to the tent. So you just unfold the tent and then extend its telescopic poles.

This is a nicely ventilated and reliable tent. It is designed for calm weather car camping, so it is quite heavy with its steel frame, it weighs 21 lb (9.5 kg). The floor area is 56 ft² (5.2 m²).

10. CORE 4 Person Straight Wall Cabin Tent 8 x 7

This is one in the series of straight wall cabin tents from Core, and it is the smallest they currently have of this type. So this is a nicely designed freestanding tent from a renown brand, with a simple structure based on four leg poles and two roof poles. The tent is cabin-style and with windows on three sides and there is one door visible in the picture above. I have included it also in my list of best 4-person cabin tents.

The declared capacity is 4 people and the tent offers an area of 56 ft² (5.2 m²). It weighs 13.4 lb (6.1 kg). It comes with an E-cable port, a gear loft, and a couple of storage pockets on the walls. Note also it is incredibly affordable.

11. Kelty Tallboy 4 Person Tent

This Kelty Tallboy 4 Person Tent was launched for the season 2020 together with its larger cousin Tallboy 6. The picture above tells you what this is about.

So this is a fully freestanding tent with the fly that attaches to the corners so there are no vestibules and you can move it around and rotate. But this also means there are no storage areas for stuff, although this same feature makes it very easy to use.

It weighs 11 lb (5 kg), so it can be carried on shorter trails but there are much lighter options for this, and I see it better suited for car camping. You have an area of 56.7 ft² (5.27 m²) and the peak height is quite remarkable for its overall size, you have 70 inches (178 cm). You will want to know that it is incredibly affordable.

12. Big Agnes Dog House 4 Person Tent

This is a new tent from Big Agnes, and it offers 57 ft² (5.3 m²) of floor area, just enough to accommodate 4 users. The tent is a single-wall design with poles that you add from outside. This allows for a dry-setup and this is convenient if you have to pitch the tent when it is raining.

It is with one door and there no vestibules. This is why you have two windows on opposite sides. The tent comes with top-quality DAC aluminum poles. It is lightweight with its 8 lb 10 oz (3.91 kg) and it is indeed backpack-portable.

13. KAZOO Family Camping Tent 4 Person Saturn

This KAZOO Family Camping Tent 4 Person Saturn offers an area of 56.8 ft² (5.3 m²) but you also have an awning configuration with the help of the included poles, and this extends the space a lot. The tent has plenty of great features and it is a very typical cabin-style tent as you realize from the picture. I have included it also in my list of best 4 person cabin tents.

You have aluminum poles, and the fly is full-coverage type, this is unusual for a cabin tent. Yet another rare feature is the pair of windows on the fly, you can see them in the picture. Note also that this is an instant setup tent, it has 2 doors and it is fully freestanding. It comes with a great waterproof rating and a great price. The tent weighs 14.31 lb (6.5 kg).

14. KAZOO Outdoor Camping Tent Uranus

This KAZOO Outdoor Camping Tent Uranus is an extended dome. It is designed as a 3-season tent with a full-coverage fly and it comes with a huge waterproof rating.

You have a floored vestibule and the picture shows the tent with its awning, the poles for the awning are included. The tent has 2 doors and 2 vestibules. One interesting detail is its 2 fly windows.

The tent weighs 10.71 lb (4.86 kg), and the inner area is 56.8 ft² (5.3 m²). The vestibule offers around 17.2 ft² (1.6 m²). Note also that the tent is very affordable.

15. Big Agnes Bunk House 4 Person Camping Tent

This Big Agnes Bunk House 4 Person Camping Tent is a very functional design. You have two large vestibules and two doors, and a smart shelter configuration.

The inner floored area is not particularly large, you have 58 ft² (5.39 m²) but the two vestibules add a lot of space so you have 105 ft² (9.8 m²) of the protected area. The weight is 15 lb 8 oz (7.03 kg).

16. Big Agnes Spicer Peak 4 Tent

Here you have a reliable dome-style shelter supported by high quality DAC aluminum poles. They are pre-bent so the tent is tall and with steep sides.

As you see from the picture, it is protected with a full coverage fly that creates two useful vestibules. Their area is 11 + 11 ft² (1 + 1 m²).

The inner floored area is 58 ft² (5.4 m²), so now you understand its position here in the list. You also have no less than 8 storage pockets to keep your gear organized. The tent weighs 11 lb 15 oz (5.41 kg).

17. The North Face Wawona 4

This is a rather tall tent for such a type, with a peak height of 173 cm. The inner area is quite modest, only 58.13 ft² (5.4 m²), but there are two asymmetric vestibules that add 27.6 + 14.9 ft² (2.6 + 1.4 m²). So the total protected area is 100.6 ft² (9.4 m²), and this makes 25.15 ft² (2.35 m²) per person.

The tent is a single-layer type in its biggest part, so the poles are outside as you see from the picture. There are two doors and 2 windows, and you have 2 vents on the roof. Please read more in my full review.

18. UST House Party 4 Person Car Camping Tent

This UST House Party 4 Person Car Camping Tent is a tall freestanding tunnel-shaped structure with a peak height of 68 inches (173 cm). It has 2 large doors on the two ends, and they have used great materials in its construction.

The poles are aluminum and the shell fabric is polyester with a PU 2000 mm coating. The tent weighs 9 lb 8 oz (4.3 kg) and it offers an area of 57.9 ft² (5.4 m²).

20. Kelty Wireless Tent 4 Person

Here you have an incredibly affordable yet reliable tent from Kelty from their new Wireless series of two tents. The inner area may look modest with its 59.2 ft² (5.5 m²) but this simple tent comes with a full-coverage fly that creates two vestibules with extra 23.7 ft² (2.2 m²) of protected space. So you have much more than in many tents below in the list.

Note also that the fly has two vents, so the tent is well-ventilated, and it is suitable for 3-season use. The poles are a special type of fiberglass construction. The fly is durable and with 1200 mm waterproof rating.

21. KLYMIT Cross Canyon Tent 4 Person

The KLYMIT Cross Canyon Tent 4 Person is the largest from their series of 3 tents. They are best known for their sleeping pads, so this is their second tent series ever built, after their first-ever Maxfield series.

Here you have a very typical dome-style tent with aluminum poles, 2 doors & 2 vestibules. The tent is ventilated and you have roof vents. It weighs 10.7 lb (4.9 kg) and its inner floor area is 59 ft² (5.54 m²). The vestibules area is 30 ft² (2.8 m²). This means that the total protected space per person is 22.25 ft² (2.08 m²) and this is quite a lot.

22. Eureka Kohana 4 Person Tent

The Eureka Kohana 4 Person Tent is a really nicely built dome-type shelter with a full-coverage fly that creates 2 vestibules. It comes with aluminum poles and a very good waterproof rating for full protection in a 3-season use.

You have optimal ventilation for such a type. The weight is 9 lb 3 oz (4.17 kg) and this is why it is here in the list. The floor area is 60 ft² (5.6 m²) and its two vestibules add 16 + 16 ft² (1.49 + 1.49 m²). The peak height is 56 inches (142 cm).

23. Eureka Space Camp 4 Person Tent

Here you have a tent supported with quality aluminum poles, and they are designed so that the walls are vertical. This gives far more volume inside than in a standard dome type tent.

It has a massive full coverage fly that creates two asymmetric vestibules, the front one is shown in the picture. There are several vents on the vestibule. So the tent is ventilated and you have plenty of protected space for storage of gear.

The weight is 13 lb 14.4 oz (6.29 kg), so this is a car camping tent. The floor area is 60 ft² (5.6 m²), and the two vestibules add 16.5 + 12 ft² (1.5 + 1.1 m²).

This Kelty Rumpus 4 Person Tent is a 3-season dome-style structure. You have one door and one very large vestibule created by its full-coverage fly that should protect you in any weather conditions.

The poles are fiberglass and the fabric is a 68D polyester. The tent weighs 13 lb 1 oz (5.92 kg). The floored area is 60 ft² (5.6 m²) and you also have 45 ft² (4.2 m²) under the mentioned vestibule. The peak height here is 58 inches (147 cm).

25. Marmot Limestone 4P Tent

This is the new version of the very popular tent with 2 doors and 2 vestibules and with a full-coverage fly. It is now better than ever. I would dare to claim that this is the most reliable of all tents here regarding weather protection. But this comes at a price, this is an expensive tent.

This is a tall and pleasant tent with steep walls, so it looks almost like a cabin tent. You would not say from the picture, but the peak height is 78 inches (198 cm).

It offers one door, two windows, and a large vestibule, and it is supported with quality aluminum poles. Here are some numbers. The weight is 13 lb 11 oz (6.2 kg), and the floor area is 60.3 ft² (5.6 m²). The vestibule adds 19.5 ft² (1.8 m²).

27. Bushnell Instant Pop-Up 4-Person Tent

When  you see the weight and height of this tent you realize this is only for car camping. It is quite heavy, it weighs 28.25 lb (12.8 kg), and it is also very tall tent with the peak height of 78 inches (198 cm).

This is a cabin type tent of a particular type. It is also fully freestanding and very pleasant with its 8 windows.

The tent is nicely ventilated, with floor vents and with roof vents, plus all those mesh windows and mesh ceiling. As the name suggests, this is also an instant tent with a pre-attached frame.

With this tent you also have a cable port. The area is 61.3 ft² (5.7 m²).

28. Coleman PEAK1 4-Person Dome Tent

This is a nicely built tent supported with aluminum poles. Its weight is 12 lb 15.1 oz (5.9 kg), so now you know why it is here and not in my list of backpacking tents.

From the picture you realize that it comes with a full coverage fly that creates a large vestibule. There is one door, and one interesting rear window on the fly matched with a window on the inner canopy. Both are with zippers and you can open them from inside. 

The tent is ventilated, you have fly on vents, and there is also a bonus footprint included, so this is all properly done for a full protection in a 3-season camping. Note also that they give a 5-year warranty.

The inner floored area is 61.3 ft² (5.7 m²) and the peak height is 70 inches (178 cm).

29. Gazelle 22272 T4 Pop up Portable Camping Hub Tent

This Gazelle 22272 T4 Pop up Portable Camping Hub Tent is here because of its declared 4-person capacity, and also because of the weight that makes it a car-camping tent. So it is quite heavy with its 30 lb (13.6 kg), and the area is 61.4 ft² (5.7 m²).

But this is a unique tent on the market with a patent-pending design, and as you see from the picture, it looks like a cabin-style tent. This is why it is included also in my list of 4 person cabin type tents. This is an instant setup structure of a particular type, with an official setup time of 90 seconds.

Other features include a great waterproof rating, 2 doors, 6 windows, it has a removable floor, and fiberglass poles.

30. Coleman OneSource Rechargeable 4 Person Tent

This tent is lighted and incredibly well-ventilated with floor and fly vents. But it also has included a fan. Both the lights and the fan are powered by an included One Source battery. This is why you have these words in its name. So this is a tent with several great bonuses.

The tent is freestanding and with fiberglass poles, a very simple dome construction, easy to use and to pack. There are three windows and one door.  The weight is 14.33 lb (6.5 kg), and the floor area is 63 ft² (5.8 m²).

31. Mountain Hardwear Bridger 4 Tent

The Mountain Hardwear Bridger 4 Tent has a relatively modest inner area of 62.5 ft² (5.8 m²). But it comes with two vestibules and a porch, so this makes the total protected space twice as large.

It is supported with quality aluminum poles, and you also have a footprint included in the package. There are many storage pouches for gear. Only under the porch you have them no less than 6.

The tent is relatively low profile and aerodynamic, so it will perform great no matter where you use it. The peak height is 66 inches (168 cm). It is a bit heavy, but it offers more than 12 square meters of a covered space. Note that it is compact when packed.

32. MSR Habitude 4-Person Camping Tent

This MSR Habitude 4-Person Camping Tent is a 3-season full-coverage fly tent with aluminum poles and quality fabric, easy to use, and reliable. For a tent with a floor size of 63 ft² (5.8 m²), this is a very tall tent because you have an interior peak height of 73 inches (185 cm).

So the mentioned floor area may not look very big, but there is also a large vestibule that adds 23.5 ft² (2.2 m²), and this makes the tent quite a luxury in the camp. The weight is 12 lb 10 oz (5.72 kg) so this is a tent for car camping. You have quality YKK zippers, and the waterproof rating is 1500 mm for the fly and 10000 mm for the floor.

33. NEMO Aurora Highrise 4 Person Tent

This tent is of a particular design and you can realize this from the picture. The general shape is a dome but the fly and poles make it unique. It is supported by quality aluminum poles, and it includes two doors, two side windows, and two vestibules.

Note also that the tent is very tall, the peak height is 75 inches (190.5 cm). The weight is 15 lb 14 oz (7.2 kg) and the inner floor area is 62.5 ft² (5.8 m²). The mentioned vestibules add 19.5 + 19.5 ft² (1.8 + 1.8 m²).

This is an exceptionally popular and versatile tent, built for summer camping. I would not put it on really hard tests. But it comes with an incredible price tag. So this is a tent for users who do not want to spend much and need a tent for occasional use in very mild summer conditions. Observer that it offers quite a good floor size.

35. Coleman Carlsbad 4 Person Tent

The Carlsbad 4 tent is unique among the tents here because of its screen room and the dark rest technology. The screen room is a pleasant part for sitting and cooking as long as the weather is fine. It is floored but it is not fully protected from the rain, so the floor is with openings to let the rainwater get out.

The inner tent room is fully protected and here you have the dark test design with dark materials used in the construction. In addition to this, the fly is designed to reflect up to 98% of the sunlight, so the atmosphere in the tent is cooler and far darker than in ordinary tents. This allows you to sleep longer in the morning and to take a nap during the day.

You realize this is a 2-room design, quite unusual for such small and dome-type tents. The total area is 99 ft² (9.2 m²; 5.84 + 3.34 m²), and the first number here is for the inner tent area. So this tent provides lots of pleasant space. Please see more in my detailed review.

36. ALPS Mountaineering Camp Creek 4 Tent

This Camp Creek 4 is a beautifully designed cabin style tent with windows on all sides. The structure is fully freestanding due to its partial coverage fly which attaches to the four corners with buckles. So even after you set the tent up, you can still move it around and rotate.

But be ready for its weight, it is here in the list for good reasons; the weight is 20 lb (9.07 kg), so this is a car camping tool. The area is not so impressive, you have 63.5 ft² (5.9 m²). So for the declared capacity of 4 people, this is far too small if this is about real camping. This is why you should downgrade the number of users here; it is perfect for couples or for parents with one child.

The waterproof rating is decent, you have 1500 mm for both the fly and the floor, and the fabric is a really durable polyester. Please read more in my full review.

37. ALPS Mountaineering Meramac 4 ZF Tent

This Meramac series has been around for many years already, but recently they have launched an upgraded version. So the floor is now incredibly durable 210D nylon, and they have added also strong #10 zippers.

The tent is a dome style as you realize from the picture, with two doors, and with a partial coverage fly. Due to such a design, you can keep the mesh only on the upper sections of the doors and you effectively have two windows. But there are panels which you can use for protection if necessary. The waterproof rating is quite appropriate, 1500 mm for both the fly and the floor. Note that the poles are fiberglass.

The official capacity is 4 people, but you have only 64 ft² (5.9 m²) and this means 16 ft² (1.5 m²) per person. Since the tent is without vestibules, it is best to downgrade it to two people only if used for ordinary camping. Please read more in my full review.

38. Browning Camping Hawthorne 4 Person Tent

This Hawthorne 4 tent is a good choice if you plan to change the place frequently. This is because of a very easy setup and a simple design and this is the reason for having it here in the list, not his size really. There are two poles that create a simple dome, plus a brow pole that creates the small awnings above the doors.

So you have no storage area here but you can use the car for this. The structure is fully freestanding, the fly attaches to the corners, so you can pitch it anywhere, you di not depend on the terrain.

The tent is with two doors and they have mesh windows. You also have mesh sections on the sides and on the top, so ventilation should not be an issue in such a tent. The waterproof rating is 1500 mm for the fly and for the floor. The poles are fiberglass.

The area is 8.5 x 7.5 ft (259 x 229 cm) or 63.8 ft² (5.9 m²). It weighs 11 lb 4 oz (5.1 kg) and the packed size is good 24 x 7 inches (61 x 18 cm). Note that this is also a very affordable tent.

39. Moosejaw Comfortress 4-Person Tent

Here you have a tall and pleasant tent with the peak height of 72 inches (183 cm). It is with a full coverage fly and suitable for 3-season car camping adventures.

It offers a huge vestibule with 43 ft² (4 m²) with two doors and a window, and an inner floored area of 64 ft² (5.9 m²). As you see from the pictures, the fly is with zippers so you can have windows also from the inner tent.

Note that they offer the tent in two versions, with aluminum and fiberglass poles. There is a cable port, and a gear loft is also included. The tent weigh 17.5 lb (7.9 kg).

40. Eureka Copper Canyon LX 4 Person Tent

This is a great example of cabin-type tents. So you have straight and nearly vertical walls, and the height of the tent is impressive 84 inches (213 cm). It is among the tallest of all tents presented here.

Clearly, this is a typical summer camping tent, so bear this in mind and avoid harsh conditions with a lot of rain and wind. It is fully freestanding, and you have an electricity port and a gear loft available.

The weight is 19 lb 4.96 oz (8.76 kg), and the area is 64.6 square feet (6 m²).

41. Coleman 4 Person Cabin Camping Tent with Screen Room

This Coleman 4 Person Cabin Camping Tent with Screen Room is a pleasant and tall 2-room structure built as a tunnel-type tent although its official name suggests something else.

There are three panoramic windows, one large door, a screen room, it comes with an e-cable port, and it is very affordable. Note that they build it in two variants, with or without the waterproof porch.

The total area is 88 ft² (8.2 m²) and the inner area is around 64 ft² (6 m²). The tent weighs 23 lb (10.4 kg).

42. Marmot Halo 4 Tent

Halo 4 is a famous tent from the Marmot brand. It has been on the market probably from 2011 or so, but this year they have modified it and launched the new version which you see here.

So the reason for adding the Halo 4 here is that it is a versatile option, suitable for family car camping or car camping in general, but also light enough to be carried on some shorter hiking and mountaineering tours.

They have improved this tent and now you have 2 gigantic doors and also two large vestibules. So although the inner area is “only” 64 ft² (6 m²), you have two vestibules that add 51 ft² (4.75 m²) of the protected area. So the total protected area is 115 ft² (10.75 m²) and this is quite good for 3 – 4 people. Please read more in my detailed review.

43. ALPS Mountaineering Acropolis 4 Person Tent

This tent is the larger of the series of two, so you have a floored area of 63.75 ft² (6.11 m²), and also two vestibules that add 25 ft² (2.3 m²). So the total protected space is 88.75 ft² (8.4 m²). The tent weighs 10 lb 4 oz (4.6 kg) and it is not the best option for the trail, this is why it is here in the list.

You have aluminum poles, and the fly is a full-coverage type 75D 185T polyester fly with a 1500 mm waterproof rating with vents. The bathtub floor is the same 75D 185T poly taffeta but with a 3000 mm coating. All seams are factory-sealed. So you are fully protected in this tent.

44. Sierra Designs Nomad 4 Person Tent

This Sierra Designs Nomad 4 Person Tent is a new tent on the market, and a top-quality structure. You have a full-cover fly and vent, two doors, and two vestibules. Its position here in the list reflects its large inner area which is 68.4 ft² (6.35 m²). But you also have vestibules that provide 25.4 ft² (2.3 m²).

The tent comes with top-quality DAC aluminum poles, and there is also an integrated solid window on the vestibule. The weight is 9 lb 15 oz (4.5 kg) so this is a lightweight tent.

45. REI Co-op Wonderland 4 Tent

Here you have a freestanding tunnel type tent, so this itself is a stand out feature. They describe it as a 3-season camping tent and this is indeed so. The tent is nicely ventilation and with 2 doors.

The poles are aluminum and the tent is very tall. It weighs 21 lb 11 oz (9.8 kg) and the floor area is 69.4 ft² (6.4 m²). Note that there are no vestibules, but they sell an accessory REI Co-op Wonderland Mud Room.

46. Nemo Wagontop 4p Tent

This Wagontop 4 is the smallest in this series by Nemo, a freestanding, pleasant, reliable, and very tall car camping tent. It is unique by the design, and with quality aluminum poles.

Th8tent has one door and a removable vestibule, panoramic windows are on its two sides, and you have them also on its narrow sides. Note that this is a single-wall structure.

The weight is 20 lb 1 oz (9.1 kg), and the floored area is 69.4 ft² (6.45 m²), but you also have 26.9 ft² (2.5 m²) under its vestibule.

47. Mountainsmith Bear Creek 4 Person Tent

This is a really exceptional tent here. It is the lightest of all, and it is also with the largest floor area. On top of this, it comes with an incredible price, only around $134 at the moment of writing this text. So it is surely no surprise that this tent is on the list.

Observe also that it comes with the footprint included. But this is not all, it has one unique feature, the rear storage area which you can see in the picture above. But the downside of this is the single door of course.

The Marmot Torreya 4-Person Tent is a top-quality camping tent with DAC aluminum poles. It comes with some unique features for full protection in 3-season use. 

You have an awning configuration shown in the picture. The poles for this purpose are included. It has triangular windows on the fly, and some storage options.

The weight is 14 lb 9 oz (6.6 kg) and the floor area is 71.9 ft² (6.7 m²). The vestibules add an extra 15 + 14 ft² (2.7 m²), so the total protected area is 100.9 ft² (9.4 m²).

This tent is a true two-layer type and I see it as a 4-season tent. You have 3 doors, aluminum poles and a huge vestibule area. The inner tent is a simple dome, but you also have an extension for the vestibule. The fly is a full-coverage and it provides a great protection.

The tent offers an awning, it is nicely ventilated, low profile with its 59 inches (130 cm) peak height, and it is strong. The weight is 19.6 lb (8.9 kg), and the inner area is 75.3 ft² (7 m²).

50. Snow Peak Alpha Breeze Tent

Here you have a true two-layer type tent with high quality materials that make it suitable for all seasons and all climates. The tent offers 4 doors and 2 vestibules.

It comes with an extra pair of poles to create an awning. The fabric is with a great waterproof rating and the poles are aluminum.

The inner area is 77.2 ft² (7.17 m²), and the tent weighs 24.2 lb (11 kg). You also have around 33 ft² (2.7 + 0.4 m²) of covered area under its two vestibules.

This Coleman Camping Tent Skydome 4 Person with Screen Room is a 2-room tent for 3-season camping. The screen room is fully protected just like the rest of the tent, with a sealed floor and wall panels.

The weight is 16.8 lb (7.6 kg) and the area is 56 + 22 ft² (5.2 + 2 m²). The poles are fiberglass, there are several storage pouches on the wall and an E-cable port.

52. CATOMA Eagle Tent

This Catoma 4 person tent offers 78.6 ft² (7.3 m²) of the area in its hexagonal-shaped structure. This is an instant setup tent with the frame pre-attached to the tent and you can make it ready in under 2 minutes. It packs like an umbrella. It is fully freestanding and even after you put the fly and attach it to the base with buckles, you can still move the tent around and rotate. The stakes are included of course.

The tent has one door and one window on the back, both with mesh and panels. It comes with a large gear shed which you attach under the ceiling. The structure is very tall with 76 in (193 cm) peak height. The poles are fiberglass and this is what makes it heavy, it weighs 15 lb 6 oz (7 kg).

53. Eureka Assault Outfitter 4 Person Tent

The total area which this tent offers in its inner tent and in two vestibules is 93.8 ft² (8.6 m²), and if used by 4 people this would give the total protected area per person of 23.4 ft² (2.15 m²). So this is quite a lot for such a dome-style tent.

As you realize from the picture, you have a full coverage fly and its waterproof rating is no less than 3000 mm. Even more, is impressive its floor with 5000 mm and 210D value. The tent is with three aluminum poles and they are thick, with 13 mm in diameter. So as you realize, these are excellent features and this tent is built for full protection.

Note also that the inner tent is taffeta and you only have two small mesh sections that have panels to close when needed. Such a design makes it suitable for all-year use. The weight is 14 lb 13 oz (6.7 kg) but the packed size is excellent, 22 x 8 in (56 x 20 cm). Please follow the link for more.

54. Marmot Guest House 4 Person Tent

This Guest House 4 is one of the 2-room tents, both rooms have practically the same level of protection, but the front room is all mesh and it has entry doors from three sides. The fourth entry door is directly in the back room. But you also have a huge inner door between the two rooms.

The fly is full coverage type and it creates 3 vestibules. The front vestibule allows for an awning configuration shown in the picture, the poles for this are included.

The tent is an extended dome with one extra pole added to support the back room. The poles are quality DAC DA17. The fly is with a 1500 mm waterproof rating and the floor is with 2000 mm, this is 68D and 70D polyester, respectively. The tent weighs 15 lb 1.5 oz (6.85 kg) and the inner area is 96 ft² (8.9 m²).

55. Snow Peak Land Breeze Pro 4 Tent

This tent is a true 4-season shelter supported by quality aluminum poles, very reliable and it is incredibly well-ventilated. You have outer and inner doors that are double layer with full size mesh, plus numerous vents.

The fly is with a 1800 mm minimum waterproof rating, and the bathtub style floor is a very strong 300D polyester with a 10000 mm waterproof rating.

The tent weighs 26.2 lb (11.9 kg), and the inner area is close to 100 ft² (9.3 m²). The vestibules area is around 34 + 17.5 ft² (3.1 + 1.6 m²).

56. Snugpak Journey Quad 4 Person Tent

This Journey Quad is the largest tent of a new series that the Snugpak brand launched recently. This is s tunnel-type tent with a fly-first design. This practically means that the poles are outside and the inner tent attaches under the fly which is raised first. With such a design, the inner tent remains dry if you have to set up the tent in the rain.

This is a tent with a huge vestibule/porch and two entry doors which you see in the picture. It also comes with a bonus footprint that covers the vestibule’s floor, so this adds value and functionality here.

You have quality materials used in its construction, the waterproof rating is 4000 mm for the fly and 5000 mm for the floor. The poles are aluminum. The tent offers 100 ft² (9.3 m²) of the total covered area in the inner tent and the porch.

57. Coleman Ridgline Plus 4 Four Person Tent

This tent has two inner tents on the sides, and in between, there is a large living room. But the floor in the living room is linked-in and not sealed, just to know. So it is a bit tricky to decide what its true inner area is. In any case, such a total floored area is 105.3 ft² (9.79 m²) and this is why the tent is in such a position here in the list.

So this is an impressive extended dome type with fiberglass poles and 3 rooms. There are 2 doors and 4 solid windows. The waterproof rating is huge. It comes with an awning setup and the price is great.

58. Naturehike Village 13 Tent

From the position of this tent in the list you realize it is huge. So indeed, the area is around 115.2 ft² (10.7 m²), and this is plenty of space for 4 users which is its official capacity. 

This is an excellent cabin type tent, two-layer type with a taffeta inner tent and a full coverage fly. You have multiple awning configurations with its three included awning poles.

The tent is nicely ventilated with its four separate windows and two large D-shaped doors. Note that all of them are double-layer with mesh and with zippered panels.

This is an instant setup tent, so the frame is pre-attached and it is very easy to have it ready. This is not all, the tent comes with an integrated ambient light as well.

The waterproof rating is huge and you have full protection here for a 3-season use.

59. Coleman Oak Canyon 4 Tent

Here you have an impressive structure with 3-rooms, and with the sleeping area built in the blackout design so it blocks 99% of the daylight. This allows you to sleep longer and to take a nap during the day.

The tent is with 2 large doors and with several PVC windows, the floor is fully sealed and the sleeping area is a tent within the tent with its own floor so you have two layers on the floor in this section.

This tent is with an impressive 4500 mm waterproof rating. This together with its steel poles makes it a reliable tent for all conditions in a 3-season use.

You have 122 ft² (11.34 m²) total inner area and this means 30.5 ft² (2.84 m²) per person. So imagine that much space in a tent which is with a peak height of 78.7 inches (200 cm) and with so many rooms and solid PVC windows. This is a luxurious camping option. Please read more in my full review.

60. Vango Beta 450XL

The Vango Beta 450XL is a tent that has been on the market since 2010, so this a very reliable tent that has stood the test of time. You have a typical tunnel-shape non-freestanding structure with two rooms, and those include the inner sleeping area which is a tent within the tent with the dark rest-design, plus a large living area.

The total protected space is 123 ft² (11.45 m²) and this is lots of room for 4 people. The waterproof rating is impressive 3000 mm so you have full protection from elements. The tent is equipped with two solid PVC windows and two entry doors. Please read more in my full review.

61. Coleman Granite Peak 4 Camping Tent

This Granite Peak 4 is with a declared capacity of 4 people but this is a 3-room structure with a total fully protected area of 128 ft² (11.9 m²). So if needed, it can easily give protection to 8 people.

This is an incredibly pleasant tunnel-type construction with the so-called dark-rest design where the daylight is reduced by 99%. The windows are solid material and you also have several vents. The waterproof rating is a huge 4500 mm. So the tent is an excellent choice for a cooler climate and it should be great also in areas with lots of rain. Please follow the link for more.

This Coleman Tent Cook 4 is an impressive tunnel-type structure with 3 rooms. It comes with four solid PVC windows and one door. With its huge waterproof rating, it is suitable for 3-seasons-plus family camping adventures.

Final thoughts – how to choose

So this was my list of the best 4 person tents for car camping, and now the question is how to choose. They are all different, so the choice should not be difficult, it will depend on what you need.

Setup time

If you change your camping place frequently, go for some instant setup tent. You have one which is spectacularly easy to use, the Coleman Instant tent.

Purpose

If this is for car camping only, and you do not plan to carry the tent to some shorter destinations, then it is best to go for a comfortable option with lots of space. You have some exceptionally nice tents in the list here. There are tents with multiple rooms.

But if you want to make some overnight adventures around, go for something appropriate, a tent that can be carried and that packs nice.

Weather & seasons

If this is about summer camping and warm weather climate, choose any of the cabin-type tents. Those are with great windows, they are tall and pleasant.

But if this is about an area with lots of rain, or if this is a cooler climate, go for full-coverage fly tents and for tunnel tents. In windy areas, it is best to choose low and aerodynamic constructions.

Price 

You do not want to spend much? Then you have some great options here, like the tents from Kelty, Coleman, and a few more.
