Is Naturehike Village 5 Roof Automatic Tent an Instant Tent?

Last Modified: 03/04/2024

The Naturehike Village 5 Roof Automatic Tent is an incredibly well-built cabin type tent with a full coverage fly and many great features, but this is not an instant setup tent.

Key features & benefits

  • Cabin type tent.
  • Full coverage fly.
  • Aluminum poles.
  • Awning poles included.
  • Huge waterproof rating.
  • 2 Doors.
  • 2 Vestibules.
  • 4 + 2 Windows.
  • Ventilated (2 roof vents + 1 floor vent).

What is in the name

As you realize from the pictures, this is a nicely designed cabin style tent with straight and steep walls, and a roof similar to a house. So you have plenty of volume in this tent in spite of its relatively small inner floored area. The picture below shows how the tent looks without the fly:

The tent without the fly.
The tent without the fly.

This is a unique design and this holds for all their tents from the Village series. Note that it is very tall for its overall area, the peak height is 74.8 inches (190 cm).

This is also a true double-layer tent with an inner taffeta tent plus a full coverage fly.

Is it an instant tent?

The word Automatic in the name only describes the fact that the frame is all one piece. This means that the leg poles tubes are shock-corded in their lover sections, and with several plastic elbow and hub elements on the roof, see the picture.

When you unfold the frame, you attach the leg poles to the tent’s base, and higher you have clips to attach the tent to the frame.

From this all you realize this is not an instant setup tent. The phrase ‘roof automatic’ simply tells you that the roof poles are always ready without any setup.

I wish to stress that there is yet another tent from this brand presented here in the site, the Naturehike Village 13 Tent which is indeed a true instant tent.

But in any case, setting this tent up is easy with that type of frame. The most important steps are shown in the pictures below.

Some setup steps.
Some setup steps.

Regarding the number 5 in the name, it is explained in the text below.

The doors, windows, and vestibules

I could say a lot here, this is an amazing tent. There are two asymmetric doors. The main door is shown in the picture below.

Front view with the main door.

But there is yet another side door, you can see it in the picture below. When the fly is in place, this door is completely protected under the side vestibule. This door is matched with an external zippered door on the vestibule.

Windows on all sides.

There are four separate windows, and they are on all the sides of the tent. Below you can see three of them. They are with fixed mesh and with inner zippered panels. But both doors are with a window on the upper part, and here too you have mesh and panels.

This is not all. The rear window is equipped with a storm panel. It is shown below. So you can stake it down and keep open even when it rains.

Rear window with a storm panel.

But wait, there is more. The complete rear side of the fly can be unzipped and rolled up, and you can have as much air circulation and views as you want.

There are also two asymmetric vestibules. One is mentioned above and you can see it in the picture above on the right. There is yet another on the opposite side, and you have access to it only through the inner zippered opening close to the floor, see the picture:

Floor vent doubles as an access point to the vestibule.

Note the following, it seems that there are several versions of this tent on the market. I have seen some version of this tent with a third rear door as well. So the complete rear side of the tent can be unzipped.

Awning configuration

The front panel is with two zippers on the sides so you can open it up and support with a pair of awning poles that are included in the package. With this you practically double your living area during the day, so here you can sit and enjoy in the shade, see the picture.

Materials

All the elements in the package are shown in the picture. You have 18 pegs that are 20 cm long, and a full set of 8 ropes (4 are 250 cm and 4 are 350 cm long).

The frame: All the tubes here are thick and strong, and this is aluminum. The joint elements are most likely nylon but they do not provide information about this. The two awning poles are made of iron.

The fabric: The fly is a strong and durable 210D lattice Oxford cloth, thick texture, more durable. Its waterproof performance reaches 3000 mm according to their statements.

The same material is on the floor. Some details are shown in the picture:

I mentioned several versions of this tent. So they include also the following differences: some of them are with a bathtub style floor and some are catenary cut type.

Other details

There is a lantern hanging hook on the ceiling. Several storage pouches are also on the walls. Below you can see also fly buckles.

Ventilation

You have already seen that the ceiling is all mesh, and you have mesh on all the windows and the doors. So you can always have enough cross flow in this tent.

The previously mentioned opening for the vestibule can be used as a floor vent, but note that there is no mesh on it. The fly is massive, and fully closable, but they have added small roof vents on the sides, one is shown below.

So ventilation is almost optimal in this tent, not much to object.

Who is it for

Regarding the best use & climate, in my view this is a true 3-season tent. All the windows and the doors are fully closable if you feel cold. But the ceiling is mesh, bear this in mind; here you have a massive fly to protect you from the cold.

The tent is tall and boxy, not the best shape for windy places, but you have plenty of stakes and ropes to secure the tent to the ground.

In warm weather and when the sky is clear, you have plenty of venting options.

Regarding the size, the tent is officially for four people as indicated in the picture below. For this you have 53.8 ft² (5 m²) of the floored area. My understanding is that this is behind the number 5 in the official name of this tent.

This is not so much for four users, so it is best to downgrade the number to maximum 3 people.

Some dimensions and floor plan.

But there are also two vestibules for gear storage. They do not give numbers but my estimate is that there is around 25.8 square feet (2.4 m²) in total. Note again that one of the vestibules is with an inner zippered port only, so the area is for storage. The other is a vestibule with an external zipper, you can see it in the picture on the left:

The side door on the left with its vestibule.

Regarding the weight, this is a heavy item in view of its 30.86 lb (14 kg). This is due to its thick frame, iron awning poles, and the massive thick fly. So this is for places with a car access, do not plan to carry it long distances.

The packed size is shown in the picture, so it can be described as a bit bulky as you realize.

Regarding the price, it may look steep, but this is a high-quality tent with some extraordinary features. Besides, you get two years limited warranty with this tent.

Final thoughts & rating

In conclusion, the Naturehike Village 5 Roof Automatic Tent stands out as an impressive and well-designed cabin-style tent with numerous features catering to campers seeking a comfortable and spacious shelter.

Its unique structure, characterized by straight and steep walls resembling a house, offers ample internal volume despite its relatively compact floor area. The tent’s full coverage fly, aluminum poles, and a substantial waterproof rating of 3000 mm contribute to its durability and weather resistance.

Despite the tent being marketed as “automatic,” it is crucial to clarify that the term refers to the all-in-one-piece frame, not an instant setup. The setup process involves attaching leg poles and securing the tent to the frame using clips, emphasizing user-friendly assembly rather than instantaneous deployment.

The tent boasts a range of thoughtful details, including two doors, vestibules, and multiple windows, enhancing ventilation and providing flexibility in various weather conditions. The awning configuration further extends the living space, making it an ideal choice for campers looking to enjoy the outdoors with added comfort.

While the Naturehike Village 5 Roof Automatic Tent may be on the heavier side, weighing 30.86 lbs, and has a relatively bulky packed size, its exceptional build quality, unique design, and array of features make it a worthwhile investment for those seeking a reliable and spacious camping shelter.

Overall, this tent earns a commendable rating, scoring high in protection, features, and overall design, making it a recommended choice for campers who prioritize comfort and durability in their outdoor adventures. I have included it in my lists of best 4-person cabin tents and best 4 person tent for car camping.

Below you can see how I rate this tent against my usual rating criteria so that you can easily compare it with other items of this type:
