What Is the Capacity of Naturehike Cloud Vessel Fast Tunnel Tent?

Last Modified: 01/21/2024

There are various statements about the Naturehike Cloud Vessel Fast Tunnel Tent capacity. In fact, this is a very luxurious 3-person instant setup type car camping tent.

Key features & benefits

  • Hybrid tunnel-cabin style tent.
  • Instant setup.
  • Huge living floorless room.
  • 3 Double-layer doors.
  • 5 Separate windows.
  • 2 Awning poles included.
  • E-cable port.

What this is about

Here you have a tent that could be described as a hybrid between a tunnel and cabin tent. From the picture below you may realize why this is so.

There are 8 leg poles connected through those poles on the roof, and this looks like a tunnel shape. But those legs are completely straight so the side walls are almost vertical like in a cabin-type tent.

The fly is a partial coverage type and it protects only the ceiling which is all mesh as you see from the pictures above.

The tent must be staked down completely to be functional, at least those stakes at two ends must be in place, so it is not freestanding.

Instant setup tent

Note that they have yet another tent with a similar name but without the word Fast in the name. Well, this word is crucial here. It describes the fact that the tent is an instant setup type.

So the frame that you see in the pictures is pre-attached, and all you have to do is to unfold the tent and to extend its telescopic leg poles. They are all with buttons that will click when locked in place.

After that just pull down the handle that you have on each of its roof poles. With this, the roof frame poles are locked in place. The main steps are shown in the pictures below.

The rooms, windows, and doors

The tent is a two-room structure, but the larger room is floorless and it is designed to be used as a living area. The picture below shows how this looks:

Large living room.

There is a separate floored room and you can see it below. There is an inner double-layer door here and you can roll it to the side as shown in the pictures.

The inner floored room.

The living room has no less than three large doors. All of them are double-layer type, with a full-size zippered mesh and a zippered panel.

The inner sleeping room has no direct access from outside. This is fine, I do not think this is really necessary.

There are no less than 5 separate windows, and all of them are double-layer, with a fixed mesh and a zippered panel. So you can unzip these panels to any height to regulate privacy and air circulation.

Awning configuration

Each of the panels on the three external doors allow for an awning setup. They include one pair of poles for this purpose. This means you can create an awning on any of the three sides.

The pictures show the tent with 3 awnings, but for this you would need to order two extra sets of awning poles.

Materials

All the elements in the package are shown in the picture below. Note that the frame is wrapped together with the tent of course.

The frame: This is all strong steel, and as you realize, the legs are long and telescopic by design. This implies substantial weight as you will see below. The included awning poles are bonus.

The fabric: The tent walls and the fly are made of a 210D Oxford polyester with a silver coating. They claim that it blocks harmful UV heating and it has a good performance in summer days. In any case, this is a really strong fabric.

Note that there are different numbers related to waterproof rating mentioned around. At some places you will see 2000 mm, and at some 3000 mm. Whatever the true number is, this is more than enough for most situations and you do not need more.

The floor, shown below, is a bathtub style. This is a very strong 420D PVC with the seams taped, with waterproof rating of 3000 mm. So you are definitely safe from the ground.

Other details

There is an E-cable zippered port here. You also have a couple of lantern hooks, and a few wall pockets. Some of these excellent features are shown in the pictures:

Plenty of great details.

Ventilation

You have already seen some of the features that contribute to ventilation in this tent. They include all those mesh areas on the doors and windows, plus the ceiling that is all mesh.

However, when it rains, you have to close all of them, and in such situations you would want to have a few floor vents. They are missing here. But the inner double-layer door is gigantic and you can keep it with mesh only, this will create enough air flow coming from the living room and under the fly from the ground.

Please see more in this short video:

Who is it for

Regarding the best use & climate, I have seen a statement about it as a 4-season tent and this makes no sense at all.

You have already seen its mesh ceiling and its partial coverage fly. It is tall and bulky and not the best option in very windy places. But its waterproof rating is very good. It is best suited for the warmer part of the year, but you can use it also as a 2-3 season tent.

You might want to compare this tent with their Naturehike Village 13 Tent where you have a full-coverage fly and much better protection.

Regarding the size, on Amazon alone you will see contradictory statements that the tent is a 6-person and also an 8-person tent. On the other hand, you will see the floor plan with three sleeping pads side by side.

They sell the tent at the same place on Amazon with several other tents and this may be partly the reason for confusion.

Below, I give the dimensions and the floor plan of the tent. What you see in the picture on the right is a large living room (left) and an inner sleeping floored space (right).

The area in this part on the right is only 51.7 ft² (4.8 m²), and its dimensions (given in centimeters) are such that clearly this is a room for 3 people only.

Some dimensions and floor plan.
Some dimensions and floor plan.

But observe also the floorless living room where you have no less than 9 square meters. So this is just a 3-person but luxurious tent with the total covered area of 148.5 ft² (13.8 m²). For three users this is a lot.

Note also that the inner sleeping room is with a sewn-in and permanently fixed wall and floor, so you have a full protection and privacy there.

But in the living room you do not have protection from crawling insects, and my rating of the overall area is affected by this. In other words, I rate the living room more or less as as very functional vestibule.

Regarding the weight, the tent is very heavy with its 48.5 lb (22 kg). So you would not really want to carry it anywhere far from your car.

Note also that it is quite long when packed, this is due to its instant setup design. So it needs quite some space in the car trunk.

But I rate the weight and packed size with respect to the overall covered area, and you have seen already that it is huge. So my rating for the weight and packed size is far from low.

Regarding the price, it is a bit steep, but the tent is indeed nicely built and luxurious so the price is more or less justified.

Specifications

  • Weight: 48.5 lb (22 kg).
  • Dimensions (L x W): 19.7 x 7.55 ft (600 x 230 cm).

Final thoughts & rating

In conclusion, the Naturehike Cloud Vessel Fast Tunnel Tent stands out as a luxurious and spacious 3-person car camping tent with an instant setup feature.

Its hybrid tunnel-cabin design offers a unique combination of straight sides resembling a cabin-type tent and a tunnel shape supported by 8 telescopic leg poles.

The tent’s key features include a large floorless living room, double-layer doors and windows, and the convenience of instant setup.

Despite its considerable weight and packed size, the tent earns praise for its generous space and well-thought-out details, making it a solid choice for those prioritizing comfort and convenience in their camping experience.

The Naturehike Cloud Vessel Fast Tunnel Tent excels in features such as instant setup, ample space, and well-designed doors and windows. However, it faces drawbacks like its weight, bulkiness, and a higher price point.

For campers seeking a spacious and comfortable tent with quick setup capabilities, this Naturehike model proves to be a worthy option, especially in warmer climates or as a 2-3 season shelter. I have included it in my list of best 3 person tunnel type tents and best 3 person camping tents.

Below you can see how I rate this tent against my usual rating criteria so that you can easily compare it with other items of this type:
