Best 3 Person Tunnel Tents for Camping

What are tunnel tents?

My impression is that tunnel tents are more popular in the EU (and this in particular in the northern part of the EU) than in the US. It is not completely clear to me why this is so, but perhaps the reasons are as follows.

There are several big tent manufacturers in the EU, in particular in the UK and in the Scandinavian countries, and they build tunnel tents. There may be the issue of climate as well. Tunnel tents on the EU market are usually with a huge waterproof rating, and they are quite enclosed constructions, with solid windows and without mesh.

It is interesting that even Coleman has separate tents designed for the EU market, and those are mostly tunnel tents. But in the past few years, there is a trend that some of these EU-Coleman tents are appearing on the Amazon-US as well.

In any case, a typical tunnel tent is an elongated structure supported by several loops. Large tunnel tents usually have several rooms. In fact, most of the largest tents on the market are tunnel-type. But if you look around, you will notice that there are no many small tunnel tents. So the purpose of this text is to present some of these small tents, more precisely 3-person tunnel tents for camping.

Best 3-person tunnel tents – my list

  10. Vango Omega 350 Tent
  11. Zempire Aero TM PRO TC Tent

1. Coleman Waterproof Tasman Unisex Outdoor Tunnel Tent 3 Person Plus

Coleman Waterproof Tasman 3 Plus.
Coleman Waterproof Tasman 3 Plus.

The word Plus in the name of this Coleman Waterproof Tasman Unisex Outdoor Tunnel Tent 3 Person Plus implies that you have more space than what you would expect from a 3-person tent. So the inner area is 41 ft² (3.8 m²), and this is not so much, but you realize from the picture above that there is a huge porch with 45.2 ft² (4.2 m²). With this addition, you have an enormous space for 3 users.

This is a true 3-season tent with a huge waterproof rating for full protection. You have 3 doors, 2 rooms, and solid windows. The tent weighs 11.46 lb (5.2 kg), so this is not something to carry anywhere, this is a camping tent. No doubt you will want to know that it is very affordable.

2. Coleman Chimney Rock 3 Plus Tent

Coleman Chimney Rock 3 Plus Tent

This tent is a tunnel-type with 3 doors, and with an impressive waterproof rating for a full protection. The inner floor area is relatively small 43 ft² (4 m²), but there is a large vestibule area of around 40 ft² (3.7 m²).

The tent is with what they call the blackout design, they write that it blocks 99% of daylight in the bedroom area. They also claim it is up to 5°C cooler during the day. The weight is 15.2 lb (6.9 kg).

3. OEX Jackal III Tent

OEX Jackal III Tent.

This is a double-layer shelter supported with aluminum poles. It offers one door and and one floored vestibule. The tent is nicely ventilated, easy to use, with a very high waterproof rating, and very affordable.

The weight is 7.4 lb (3.37 kg) so it is a bit heavy for the trail, but indeed it is backpack-portable. The inner floored area is around 43 ft² (4 m²), and the vestibule has around 30 ft² (2.8 m²). The peak height is 39.4 inches (100 cm).

4. Coleman Tent Coastline 3 Plus

This is a nicely ventilated tunnel-type tent with 3 doors visible in the picture. The inner floored area is 45.2 ft² (4.2 m²), but you also have a large vestibule that offers 40.7 ft² (3.8 m²) of space with its linked-in floor.

The inner door is a 2-layer type with a full size mesh and a panel, and you also have vents on the fly. The waterproof rating is very good, and the tent comes with an excellent price tag. The weight is 15.45 lb (7.01 kg).

5. Crua Tri 3 Person Thermo Insulated Tent

Crua Tri 3 Person Thermo Insulated Tent.
Crua Tri 3 Person Thermo Insulated Tent.

I mentioned unique tents, so this Crua Tri 3 tent is as unique as it can possibly be, there is nothing on the market even remotely similar to it. As you realize from its name, this is an insulated tent. So you have an inner cocoon that insulates you from everything outside, regardless if it is cold or warm. The R-value is 4, so this is a 4-season tent.

The inner cocoon provides also sound insulation, and at the same time, this is a dark rest design. This means that the daylight is almost completely blocked. The shell is built from poly-cotton fabric, so this is a breathable but fully waterproof material with a waterproof rating of 5000 mm. The poles are strong aluminum.

With all these features, the tent is heavy and also bulky. This is expected in view of its inner insulation. So the weight is 48 lb (22 kg). The area is 68.5 ft² (6.36 m²), and this includes the porch and vestibule. When the vestibule is closed, the tent looks like a 2-room structure, see the picture above. The inner floored area is 50 ft² (4.6 m²).

6. Naturehike Cloud Vessel Fast Tunnel Tent

Naturehike Cloud Vessel Fast Tunnel Tent.
Naturehike Cloud Vessel Fast Tunnel Tent.

This a top-tier choice for car campers seeking luxury and convenience. The inner floored area is 51.7 ft² (4.8 m²), but there is also a floorless room so the total covered area is 148.5 ft² (13.8 m²).

With its unique hybrid tunnel-cabin design, this tent stands out in the market. The instant setup feature makes pitching camp a breeze—unfold, extend telescopic leg poles, and lock them in place.

The floorless living room is the highlight, offering a spacious retreat with three double-layer doors and five separate windows for ample ventilation.

The awning configuration adds versatility, and the sturdy steel frame ensures stability. Despite being described as a 4-season tent, it’s best suited for the warmer months, making it an excellent 2-3 season shelter.

While the tent is heavy and bulky, the overall comfort, well-thought-out details, and generous space make it a standout choice for those prioritizing a luxurious camping experience.

7. Snow Peak Entry Pack Tent and Tarp

Snow Peak Entry Pack Tent and Tarp
Snow Peak Entry Pack Tent and Tarp.

Here you have a set of two products, one is the 2-layer and 4-season Snow Peak Vault 4 Person Tent with two vestibules and three doors, and the other is a tarp.

This all is supported by quality aluminum and steel poles. The set weighs 34.8 lb (15.8 kg). As for the area, you have 67 ft² (6.2 m²) of the floored inner area, plus 48 + 20 ft² (4.4 + 1.8 m²) under the two vestibules. The tarp creates a large shed, and you can use it in various ways, with or without the tent.

8. OLPRO Knightwick 3 Berth Tunnel Tent

OLPRO Knightwick 3 Berth Tunnel Tent.
OLPRO Knightwick 3 Berth Tunnel Tent.

This is a 2 room tent, so you have an inner floored tent which is a bedroom, and a living room in front of it with its own sewn-in and sealed floor.

There are 2 doors and both are double-layer type. The shell has a huge waterproof rating, and you have ventilation options that make it suitable for a 3-season camping and in any weather.

The weight is 13.2 lb (6 kg), and the floored area is around 77.5 ft² (7.2 m²). The peak height is 51.2 inches (130 cm).

9. Vango Venture 350 Tent

Vango Venture 350 Tent.
Vango Venture 350 Tent.

Vango is one of the EU manufacturers I mentioned above. This Venture 350 is with 3000 mm waterproof rating for the fly and 10000 mm for the floor. So this is a tent which should keep you dry in any weather conditions.

The floored area is 86 ft² (8 m²) so clearly, this is a lot of space for sleeping and for your equipment. This explains the number 350 in the name, this means it has more than you would expect from a 3-person tent. But the tent is a bit heavy, it weighs 15 lb (6.8 kg), so this is a camping tent to use at places with motorized access.

The inner space is organized in two rooms; the sleeping area is a tent within the tent with a fully sealed floor. In front of it, you have a living floored area but the floor here is not sewn in. The tent provides full comfort with its 2 doors and 2 PVC windows, and one of the doors is also with mesh against insects. The inner door is also with mesh.

10. Vango Omega 350 Tent

Vango Omega 350 Tent.
Vango Omega 350 Tent.

This Omega 350 is a tunnel type tent with two rooms and you have an area of 97 ft² (9 m²). So this is lots of space for 3 users, this is why it comes with the number 350 in the name. The tent is a bit heavy, it weighs 11 lb (5 kg), but you have seen its size.

The waterproof rating is impressive; the fly is 5000 mm and the floor is 6000 mm. So the tent is suitable for any weather conditions in a 3-season plus use. Not surprising when you know that this is a Scottish brand.

The tent has 2 large doors and solid windows, so it is quite enclosed and suitable for a cooler environment. The poles are aluminum. In view of such features, the tent is very affordable.

11. Zempire Aero TM PRO TC Tent

Zempire Aero TM PRO TC Tent.
Zempire Aero TM PRO TC Tent.

This tent is impressive in many ways. You have a polycotton construction with a breathable fabric, and in addition it has many venting options. This is a tent with 2 rooms plus a large porch, so it is almost like a 3-room tent. One of the rooms is in an inner tent, and this is a dark rest bedroom.

There is also a separate storage room. It offers PVC tinted windows and tinted skylight windows, and several E-cable ports. There are 3 doors and you also have an awning configuration. The tent is supported with inflatable beams.

The floored area is 122 ft² (11.3 m²) and the porch has 40.4 ft² (3.75 m²). The weight is 83.8 lb (38 kg), and the tent is with a peak height of 86.6 inches (220 cm).
