Core 4 Person Instant Cabin Performance Tent

Last Modified: 03/04/2024

The Core 4 Person Instant Cabin Performance Tent is freestanding and pleasant with its large windows and overhanging fly, very easy to use, ventilated, and reliable.

Key features & benefits

  • Cabin type tent.
  • Instant setup.
  • Freestanding.
  • Extended Eave Technology.
  • Large windows.
  • Ventilated.

What is in the name

This is the smallest tent from their Performance series that includes four tents, so you have this 4 person, then 6, 8, and 10 person tents. All are built in the same style.

This is how the tent looks without the fly.
This is how the tent looks without the fly.

The picture above shows the tent without its minimal coverage fly, so you can better understand its cabin-type structure with those straight and steep walls.

It is fully freestanding with its four leg poles that are telescopic type. This is also an instant setup tent so all the elements are pre-attached, except for the fly that you add separately. Its official setup time is 60 seconds, and this should be taken literally.

Below you see how this is done, so remove the tent from its carry bag, unfold, and then extend its four legs.

After that you can add the fly if you expect rain. It attaches to the base with buckles, one is shown below. Even after you attach the fly, you can still move the tent around and rotate.

You have already see those short poles on the roof, so this is what they call the Extended Eave Technology. One of them is shown below. Note that these four poles are also pre-attached and they remain there all the time. Basically the same design you can see also in the Eureka Jade Canyon X 4 Person Tent.

The purpose of these poles is to separate the fly from the mesh ceiling to improve ventilation, and also to create the overhanging fly so that the windows and the door are partly protected.

Speaking about windows, you have them two separate on the sides and two on the only door. All of them are double-layer design with zippered panels and mesh. The door is large and with inverted-T type zippers.

The picture below shows the inner area with the windows on the sides, and a large organizer on the rear wall, you have it included in the package.

Materials

The poles and stakes: This is all steel, so the structure is strong and stable. You have 10 stakes included and they are 7 inches long.

The fabric: The tent is built from a durable polyester, so you have 150D used for the walls and the fly, and the floor is also polyester but with a 210D value.

This is what they call the H20 Block Technology with heavier fabrics and increased water repellency. The waterproof rating is 1200 mm, not much but you will hardly need more. Zippers are large and snag-resistant.

Other details

The tent comes with a cable port shown below.

A carry bag is also included, see how it looks:

Ventilation

The picture without fly above shows that the ceiling is all mesh. The fly is extended and separated from the inner tent so vapor will not stay inside and it can escape everywhere around.

When the sky is clear you can keep the tent without the fly, and you can also keep windows with mesh only for plenty of air circulation. You can keep them partly open even in the case of rain because they are partly under the fly.

But even if you close windows completely, you still have a large rear vent close to the floor, you can see it from outside in the picture below. So this tent has optimal features regarding ventilation.

Who is it for

Regarding the best use & climate, I see this tent best suited for summer camping and for calm weather. With such a fly you would not want to use it in windy places.

But it is fully closable and there is no doubt it will protect you in the case of rain. Its ventilation is optimal for warm weather summer camping.

Regarding the size, you have the floor area of 56 ft² (5.2 m²), so this is supposed to accommodate four users. You can place four pads on the floor, but this tent is perfect for a couple, or eventually for parents with one small kid.

Regarding the weight, the tent is heavy with its 21 lb (9.5 kg). The packed size (the numbers below) is also not its best feature, but this is all because of its instant setup design. Those telescopic poles have overlapping sections and this adds weight and length.

Also, the fabric is heavy, but this is not a bad side of this tent. It is built for car camping so these features are expected.

Regarding the price, it is a bit high but this is still reasonable for such a nicely built tent and for this renown brand.
