Eureka Jade Canyon X 4 Person Tent

Last Modified: 12/04/2023

The Eureka Jade Canyon X 4 Person Tent is a very tall and pleasant cabin type car camping shelter with a strong steel/aluminum frame and an interesting overhanging roof.

Key features & benefits

  • Cabin type.
  • Overhanging roof.
  • Very tall tent.
  • Great steel & aluminum poles.

What is in the name

This is a smaller out of two tents in the series that also includes a 6-person version built in the same style and with the same peak height. The tent is the second generation of the series that has been around for years.

This latest version has the letter X in the name. It turns out that this new version is more similar to their previous (discontinued) Desert Canyon series than to the previous Jade Canyon tents.

It comes with interesting roof poles (one shown below), that create an overhanging roof so that the windows are partly protected. You can see this in the top picture above.

Note that this design is available also in Outdoor Products 4 Person Instant Cabin Tent, so strictly speaking it is not unique.

The tent is a very typical cabin-type structure with steep and straight walls as you can see from the picture below. Note that it is very tall with its inner 84 inches (213 cm) peak height.

With this design which they call the CabinMAX architecture, they claim you have 30% more livable space than in typical cabin tent designs.

The tent has one door with its own window, plus three separate windows. All of them are double-layer type with mesh and with inner panels. Note that these panels attach to the walls with loops and toggles, so there are no zippers here.

Large windows.

The fly is a partial-coverage type and it attaches to the corners, so the tent is fully freestanding but you have all stakes and guylines available to stake it down. They have added one extra pole above the door that creates a small brim so you have a dry entry point.

The tent comes with an E-cable port and four storage pockets on the wall, see the pictures below.

Materials

The poles: You have a great combination for a cabin type tent. The legs poles are steel and the roof poles are aluminum. They are 19 and 13 millimeters diameter, respectively.

The fabric: The body is a 68D 190T polyester taffeta with a 2000 mm rating. The fly is with the same rating but the fabric is more durable 75D 190T polyester taffeta.

Mesh sections are a 40D polyester no-see-um, and the floor is a 75D 190T polyester taffeta with a 3000 mm rating. So these are moderately durable materials and the waterproof rating is very good.

Setting this tent is easy, you can see the setup instruction in this document.

Ventilation

The tent has enough mesh sections for excellent ventilation whenever the sky is clear. There are no roof vents but with such a fly you do not need them, vapor can escape in particular in the area above the door.

You have to keep panels on windows during the rain, but they are without zippers so air will get in. Please see more in this short video:

Who is it for

Regarding the best use & climate, with such a height and shape, this is a tent for calm weather and for summer camping, or for maximum two seasons. Waterproof rating is very good but this is not of much help with such panels on the windows.

Regarding the size, you have 64 ft² (5.9 m²) of the floor area and the tent is officially for 4 people. This would make 16 ft² (1.47 m²) per person. So although you can put 4 pads on the floor, this is not practical. It is best to use it for two people or for parents with one kid.

Regarding the weight, the tent is heavy with its 21 lb 3.2 oz (9.61 kg), and it is also bulky with its packed size (L x D) 27 x 9 inches (69 x 23 cm). But this tent offers lots of volume, it is pleasant and tall. So these parameters are not a big deal, it is built to be used as a car camping shelter.

Regarding the price, it is a bit high, but you have great materials and a globally-known brand here.

Final thoughts & rating

In summary, this Eureka Jade Canyon X 4 Person Tent looks great, it is tall and pleasant with its large windows on all four sides. You have great materials and a high waterproof rating. But you have seen its windows panels, so avoid places where you may have lots of winds and rain combined. This tent is included in my list of Eureka 4 person tents.

Below you can see how I rate this tent against my usual rating criteria so that you can easily compare it with other items of this type:
