Last Modified: 12/04/2023

This Outdoor Products 4 Person Instant Cabin Tent Review is about a cabin style easy to use nicely ventilated tent suitable for up to two seasons. Keep reading.

Outdoor Products 4 Person Instant Cabin Tent.

Key features & benefits

  • Instant setup – 60 seconds.
  • Cabin style tent.
  • Extended eave & overhanging fly.
  • Floor vents.
  • 1 Door & 3 windows.
  • E-cable port.
  • Reasonable price.

What this Outdoor Products 4 Tent is about

This tent is quite new on the market, but it is becoming increasingly popular and when you see all its features and price you will realize why this is so. This is a part of a series of tents that include also 6, 8, and 10 person tents all built in the same style.

So this is a very typical cabin style tent with straight and steep walls. The picture below shows how it looks without the fly so you can get some idea about its structure. Note that it is moderately tall with its 66 inches (168 cm) peak height.

This is how the tent looks without the fly.
This is how the tent looks without the fly.

You have an instant setup tent here, and if you are not familiar with this terminology this means that the frame is pre-attached to the tent and you pack them together. So setting this tent up is indeed possible under one minute time. You unfold the tent and extend its telescopic poles. There are pop-up buttons that will lock them in place. After that just add the fly and stake it down properly.

The tent is also fully freestanding so you can pitch it anywhere and rotate and move even when the fly is on. One interesting detail you see in the picture above are those rainfly eaves in the top corners. Their purpose is to keep the fly well-separated from the canopy, see the picture below. This improves ventilation and also gives extra protection to the windows and the door.

Note that this design is rare but it is not unique, it has been around in some tents. You can see it also in the Eureka Jade Canyon 4 Person Tent that is built in the same style, so you might want to compare these two tents.

The eaves separate the fly from the tent.

The tent has one door and three windows, and all mesh sections on these wall openings are in pairs with zippered panels for protection and privacy.

Ventilation

The tent has the ceiling that is all mesh (no panels here), and you have the mentioned mesh on the windows. But they have added 2 large floor vents, see one in the picture below. This all in combination with the fly eave design mentioned above is a guarantee to have optimal ventilation, there is nothing one could object here.

The materials

The frame

You have seen it already above and this is all steel. This is reflected in the tent’s weight.

The fabric

The tent body and the fly are 68D 190t polyester with an 800 mm waterproof rating. This does not look much but this is enough. The openings and the ceiling are No-See-Um mesh. The floor is a durable 115 g/m² coated polyethylene and it is a bathtub design.

Other features include an E-cable port and you also have storage elements on the wall, see the picture:

Who is it for

Regarding the capacity, this tent is officially for 4 people. You have 56 ft² (5.2 m²) of the floor area and this would give 14 ft² (1.3 m²) per person. The dimensions are such that you can indeed put 4 sleeping pads on the floor. But the tent is also great for couples because you can put a queen size bed inside. It is also good enough for parents with one small kid.

Regarding seasons & climate, the waterproof rating is minimal but you do not need more if seams are done properly. As always it is best to test the tent before getting into trouble when you are in the camp.

They claim that it is tested to 40 MPH wind, and they also recommend to avoid camping in dangerous conditions, whatever they imply with this. But with such a fly and the tent’s boxy structure, I would totally avoid windy areas.

The ventilation is great, you have views around, the tent is moderately tall, and I see it best suited for summer camping, or for a maximum of 2 seasons.

Regarding the weight, with its 21 lb (9.5 kg) this tent is heavy. But this is typical for instant tents in general, and here this is even more so because of the steel poles. The packed size is also not so great, but yet again this is typical for instant tents with telescopic poles. So in any case, this is a tent for places with a car access.

Please see a bit more about this series, the video shows a larger tent but they have the same features:

Final thoughts, rating, pros & cons

In the summary of this Outdoor Products 4 Person Instant Cabin Tent review, I would point out that the tent looks cool and it is very easy to use. Though it may not be so easy to transport it, you have seen its packed size and weight. The price is more than appropriate for the value. I have included it in my list of best 4 person cabin camping tents.

Please see how I rate it against my standard set of criteria so you can compare with some other tents here in the site:
