Best Cotton Sleeping Bags for Adults

Last Modified: 10/03/2022

Here you have my selection of the best cotton sleeping bags for adults, all with an impressive temperature rating, incredibly comfortable and very affordable.

Best Cotton Sleeping Bags for Adults.

What I mean by cotton sleeping bags?

When you speak about sleeping bag materials, you normally have in mind its external shell, then inner liner, and finally its fill or insulation. So the sleeping bags in the list are with the following combinations:

  • Cotton used only for the liner.
  • Cotton used for both liner and shell.
  • Cotton used for liner & insulation.

Are cotton sleeping bags good?

Having flannel as a liner is the most pleasant option. This is a breathable material but note that it absorbs moisture and it may be difficult to dry it quickly.

The same objection holds for the cotton shell and insulation. So you will see many cotton bags in the group of those for very cold weather but note that after a long time of use, such a bag can accumulate moisture, and this may affect its thermal efficiency. Quite generally, it is best to avoid vet conditions with such bags.

If you still go for cotton, the best option would be to have only the cotton liner and the rest to be synthetic.

This ALPS OutdoorZ Redwood -25 Degree Flannel Sleeping Bag has a natural cotton flannel inside and the cotton shell outside. So this is a 100% cotton fabric. This is all very quiet material and it feels much more comfortable than any synthetic.

It is the same on both sides, and this means that you can have the zipper on any side as it suits you best. The bag is with an impressive temperature rating of -25 F (-32 C). For this you have several kilograms of a synthetic insulation.

The bag is rectangular and it is also very large, you have 80 x 38 inches (203 x 97 cm). But note it is without a hood, and it is heavy and bulky, it weighs 13 lb (5.9 kg). It is also very affordable.

How to choose

All these cotton sleeping bags for adults are large and most of them are also very warm. They are very comfortable, but quite bulky and heavy. There are substantial differences regarding their weight and packed size related to the combination of materials used in their construction. So check the numbers carefully.

Note also that there are differences in their design, and I think the hood is the most important one. A hood adds a lot to overall performance and warmth, so if you expect really cold weather, go for a hooded bag.

This list will be updated whenever I find something worth adding here. So bookmark this text and come back occasionally, this will keep you informed. If you need more options, just check under the category Sleeping Bags. Thank you for reading.
