Key features & benefits

  • Rectangular.
  • Very large.
  • Machine washable.
  • Can be fully unzipped.
  • Can be zipped to another bag.
  • Flannel liner.
  • Cotton shell.
  • Pocket.

What this is about

This sleeping bag is also known under the name Coleman Autumn Trails 30 Big & Tall Sleeping Bag, so this is yet another from their Big and Tall series. They all share some similar features, so the bag is rectangular and very large.

You have very pleasant materials used here. The shell is cotton and the liner is flannel and it extends into what they call the Comfort Cuff, this is a flannel layer that surrounds your face, see the picture below. Yet another feature visible in the picture is a convenient external pocket close to the zipper.

The insulation is synthetic, and this is what they call the Coletherm, a hollow polyester fiber insulation that provides better heat retention with less weight. The bag is machine washable. They apply their no-shift filling design so the insulation is sewn in such a way that it doesn’t shift around. This eliminates cold spots.

The zipper is with what they call the ZipPlow design for a snag-free opening and closing. The bag can be fully unzipped so you can use it as a blanket. You can also zip it to yet another bag of this type and have a double-wide bag to use with your partner.

This is not all, you also have their Roll Control system that keeps your bag straight while rolling it up. This includes several toggles and loops on its sides, they are visible in the picture below. So you fold the bag in half its width and fix it with the toggles, and then start rolling from one end.

After that you can easily pack it in the included stuff sack, see below how it looks. The packed dimensions are (L x D) 20.1 x 11.8 inches (51 x 30 cm).

There are two color options on the market, they are shown in the pictures here, but as far as I know both bags are with the same features.

Who is it for

Regarding the best use & climate, the official rating of this bag is 20-40 F (-7 to 4 C) and 30 F (-1 C) as a comfort level. But we are all built differently and it is best to test it yourself. Note that there is no hood here, so I do not see it as a sleeping bag for such low temperatures.

Regarding the size, this bag is officially for users up to to 6 ft 4 in (193 cm) tall. It measures 81 x 39 inches (206 x 99 cm). With such numbers it is wide but the length is just average. I have added it to my list of extra wide sleeping bags.

Regarding the weight, the bag is very heavy, it weighs 9.1 lb (4.13 kg). But you have pleasant materials indeed. The packed size is already shown above, so all in all this is a car camping item.

Regarding the price, it is more than appropriate for such a great sleeping bag. Though I see different prices for the two versions on Amazon and I am not sure why this is so.

Final thoughts & rating

So this Coleman Autumn Trails 30 Degree Sleeping Bag is nothing spectacularly new for this brand, they have several bags built in the same style and you can see them here in the site.

But this is a pleasant cotton bag with a synthetic fill, machine washable and easy to maintain and to clean. Such materials make it bulky and heavy but this is not essential if you accept it as a car camping bag. It is included in my list of best cotton sleeping bags for adults.

Below you can see how I rate this bag against my usual rating criteria so that you can easily compare it with other items of this type presented here in the site:
