Women Salomon X Ultra 2 GTX Shoes – Ultimate Hiking Tool

Women Salomon X Ultra 2 GTX shoes are a new and updated 2016 version of the very popular hiking shoes that have been around from 2009. These shoes are very lightweight and they offer a great stability and weather protection.

General description

At Salomon site, they describe the X Ultra 2 GTX shoes as trail running technologies applied to hiking equipment. Indeed, when you see how these shoes look like, you have the filling that they are a pair of running shoes. But regardless of their (exceptionally beautiful) external design, in fact, these are true hiking shoes.

As you see from the picture above, these are low-cut shoes, and therefore you can use them also in daily life, and for various outdoor activities.

This beautiful shoe has a Gore-Tex liner inside. So you are totally protected from water, while at the same time the material is breathable and you will feel pleasant on long hiking trails. Your feet are kept dry both from outside and inside.

Quicklace system with a pocket for the lace under the letter S.

It has a gusseted tongue. This means that there is a material bridge that connects the tongue to the body of the shoe, almost all the way up the shoe. This protects you from water and debris entering the shoe.

You also have a Quicklace system used here. This implies very minimalistic but strong kevlar laces with one-pull tightening. Extraordinary easy on and off.

They were thinking of everything, so you have a tiny lace pocket on the upper part of the tongue, to hide the excess lace away. This is useful in particular if you walk through bushes. It is just beneath the letter S on the tongue, you can see it in the picture above. So when you lock it with the stopper you stow in the pocket.

Sensifit system used here implies that the upper is integrated with the lacing system. So the foot is enveloped with a secure fit. You can see it in the first picture above

In the construction, a sturdy abrasion-resistant lining is used. It is still very breathable and quick drying.

On the toe, you have extra rubber cup for protection, good to have on a hard terrain, and something similar is on the heel section as well, the latter is visible in one of the pictures below.

The sole system

The sole is peace of engineering. Inside you have an EVA shaped footbed. There is a mudguard, a protective layer all around the bottom part. The mentioned Sensifit system is used to cradle the foot in order to offer a precise and secure fit.

You have OrthoLite sock liner which combines a specific Ortholite foam and an EVA heel cup. The Ortholite foam is there to create a healthier and better cushioned environment under the foot. It is designed to last and to keep its features over time. You also have EVA heel cups for a better heel support and cushioning.

Salomon’s 3D lightweight advanced chassis used here is placed between the outsole and midsole. Its purpose is to maximize motion control and energy management and to add lateral protection and torsional stability.

The bottom is Salomon’s Contagrip. It is designed to give an optimal traction on varied surfaces. This is Salomon’s branded technology developed in 1994 for mountaineering boots. They have developed it into a broad range of soles and have used it ever since in their sport shoes.

Hm, these look quite interesting. It is also very timely, my lady is looking for some new hiking shoes because we are going to start hiking trails together. I suppose this would be the best shoot for start on the right foot!

Could you run in these although they are hiking shoes? Are there any other colors other than blue though? Like black maybe?

Hi Chris, this is new 2016 model and they have only 2 colors. I know for sure that previous versions have at least 3 other colors so this is pretty enough. There is black-gray combination. Can you run in them, well the sole is a bit more stiff than what you would normally have in running shoes and they are GoreTex and breathable but there are some implications with this. You mat read how such materials behave in various temperature conditions in my another text. So I would say not for usual running.

I wish I had read your review before leaving home. I am voyaging across south america, the tropical weather is defiantly causing us some problems and keeping dry can be difficult sometimes.

The gore-tex material I’m sure would dry much more quickly then leather, and the sole looks great for trekking. along with the mud guard!

Do you know of any suppliers that will ship to the Amazon rainforest? If you do then I would love to order a pair!

    Thanks
