Best 3 Person Cabin Tents for Camping

About cabin-style tents in general

The words cabin tents imply structures with straight and steep walls, usually with plenty of windows and multiple doors. This type is very frequent among large family camping tents. Cabin tents are usually very comfortable and pleasant, with lots of volume and head-space.

But such cabin-style tents are also usually heavy, bulky, and boxy structures. So they are best suited for car camping, and for places without much wind. On the other hand, you will notice that on the market there are no many cabin-style tents among those smaller tents for 3 and 4 people.

My list of the best 3 person cabin tents for camping

So here is my list of the tents ordered by the floor area from smaller to larger, you will realize that they are very different in style and design:

  1. Coleman 3-Person Connectable Tent
  2. Russian-Bear Hot Tent with Stove Jack Cuboid 2.20
  3. Coleman Tent OctaGo 3 Man Tent

1. Coleman 3-Person Connectable Tent

Coleman 3-Person Connectable Tent.
Coleman 3-Person Connectable Tent.

This Coleman 3 Connectable tent is a completely unique structure, and you will not find anything similar on the market. It is here because of its cabin style, and you realize from the picture that the walls are straight and steep, and the peak height is 57.6 inches (146 cm).

The tent is also fully freestanding and very functional with its 2 doors and 2 separate windows. Coleman has several tents series with what they call the Fast Pitch system, and you have it here as well. This is a sort of a hubbed design, and this makes the setup fast and easy.

The mentioned unique property is described by the word Connectable in its name. This means that you can zip it up to their 6-person tent from the same Connectable series and make a larger structure. More precisely, three 3-person tents can be attached to the 6-person tent.

As for the rest of the numbers, the area is 8 ft² (4.46 m²) and the weight is 15 lb (6.8 kg). You will want to know that the tent is incredibly affordable.

2. Russian-Bear Hot Tent with Stove Jack Cuboid 2.20

Russian-Bear Hot Tent with Stove Jack Cuboid 2.20.
Russian-Bear Hot Tent with Stove Jack Cuboid 2.20.

This Russian-Bear Hot Tent with Stove Jack Cuboid 2.20 is again a completely unique structure, unlike anything available on the market. It comes with a wood-burning stove included and in this case, it can accommodate two people plus the stove. Without the stove, you have a place for three people, the area is 52.5 ft² (4.88 m²).

If you need a tent for the most extreme weather conditions and for all seasons, this is it. The tent is built as a fully 2-layer structure, and this is an instant setup. But the windows are a 5-layer construction, and in the doors you have 3 layers.

The tent is fully freestanding with its aluminum/steel frame, and the picture above shows that it allows for an awning configuration. The weight is 44.1 lb (20 kg). I have included it also to my list of best winter camping tents.

3. Coleman Tent OctaGo 3 Man Tent

Coleman Tent OctaGo - 3 Man Tent.
Coleman Tent OctaGo – 3 Man Tent.

The word OctaGo has something to do with the base shape of this tent, which is an octagon. You have the floored area that measures 64.6 ft² (6 m²), so this is lots of space for three people. The picture shows how steep its walls are, so this is a typical cabin-type tent with lots of volume inside.

Quite unusual for a cabin tent is to have a full-coverage fly, and this is what you have here. Note also that the tent is fully freestanding, there are 8 steel legs that support it, and the fly attaches at the base of the tent.

There are 8 windows, one on each of its sides, and they match zippers on the fly so you can have plenty of views around, the picture shows how the fly can be open for this purpose. The tent weighs 25.6 lb (11.6 kg).

Final thoughts

So this was my list of best 3 person tents for camping, it will be updated whenever I find a tent worth adding here. This is why you might want to bookmark this text and visit it occasionally, this will keep you informed.

These are all tents for places with a motorized access, a bit heavy so you would not want to carry them long distances. But if you need a 3-person tent for the trail, check this list.
