Key features & benefits

  • Cabin style tent.
  • Instant setup.
  • Full 2-layer tent.
  • Freestanding.
  • Stove jack.
  • Stainless-steel stove included.
  • Aluminum/steel frame.
  • Awning configuration.
  • 5-Layer windows.
  • 3-Layer doors.
  • For all seasons.

What this is about

This tent is on the market with several different names, so you will find it also as Cuboid 2.20. The number 2.2 gives its length in meters. So this is a square freestanding structure with a pop-up and popout design, and this makes it an instant tent.

This means that the frame is pre-attached to the tent, and all its sides as well as its roof pop out when you pull them. You have hub elements on its all sides and on the roof, see the picture below. A very similar instant design you can see also in this Gazelle 22272 T4 Pop up Portable Camping Hub Tent. But here you have a completely unique tent with so many incredible features. The tent is a fully 2-layer construction.

This picture gives you some idea of the frame.

The doors & windows

There are 2 doors here and they are 3-layer structures, so you have the outer panel, the central mesh door, and finally the inner fabric door. They are positioned in the corners and their shape is quite interesting, see the picture:

Very unusual doors.

But if you think that this is impressive, wait to see the windows. There are two of them and these are 5-layer structures. This includes an outer panel that you can roll up and fix in place with toggles, see the picture below, and a solid translucent and removable layer equipped with Velcro on the perimeter and with a stiffener so you can keep it open for ventilation.

Then you have an inner flap, a mesh layer, and finally an inner panel; all these three layers are with zippers. Below is a zoomed view from inside. You can see the stiffener that can keep the solid window open for ventilation.

Awning configuration

One side of the tent is with long zippers in the corners so you can unzip it completely and create an awning with the included aluminum poles. The zippers are on both the inner and the outer layers so you can raise both layers or only the shell layer.

This is the third mesh layer behind the 2-layer zippered side.

Note that this side of the tent also has a mesh wall as a third layer which will protect the inner tent from insects, the picture above. It is equipped with two side zippers similar to the two outer layers so you can open it as you wish and you can also roll it up and fix on the ceiling. This configuration is presented in the picture:

Here is the view inside when you roll the mesh wall up, the white fabric is the inner waterproof layer:

Note that they sell an accessory set with walls that will close the awning from all the sides. This is done through the Velcro connection, there is a long Velcro tab that runs on all three sides of the awning shown in the pictures, and you have the same Velcro on the accessory 3-side wall. This configuration is shown in the picture below. With this in place, you have an almost doubled area.

Extra protected space created by the accessory 3-side wall.

Pipe jack

The pipe jack is high on the roof, and you have an external flap equipped with Velcro so you can roll it up and fix it with toggles. There is also an inner flap with Velcro and toggles. The material around the round opening is highly heat-resistant. Note that the diameter of the pipe hole is 3.54 inches (9 cm).

This is how the Russian-Bear Hot Tent looks with its stove pipe.

The included Stainless Steel stove

The tent would not be complete without a stove, so here you have it, a stainless steel AISI 430, together with a pipe and a floor protection flap. It is equipped with a heat-resistant glass window 0.16 inches (4 mm) on the side, see the picture:

This stove is included.

Ventilation

All the windows and doors are with mesh so you can use them for ventilation when the sky is clear. But they have added low vents above the floor and they are equipped with Velcro stiffeners and mesh for insect protection. This is all properly done, nothing to object here.

The carry bag

The carry bag is enormous but very strongly built, you have carry handles plus compression straps that keep the content inside tight and secured. It opens wide so it is easy to get the tent in and out of it. Inside you have a zippered pocket with steel stakes, guylines, and other smaller parts.

Materials

They use an aviation aluminum alloy B95T1 and steel frame. The poles are 10-11 mm in diameter. As mentioned above, the poles are pre-attached to the tent, they go through their strong sleeves so you will not deal with them and you will not even see them.

The inner fabric is a very durable 210D Oxford with PU coating that gives it a 2000 mm waterproof rating. The outer layer is an even stronger 300D Oxford with PU coating and a 4000 mm rating. There is nothing on the market with such a combination of materials.

The floor is a 3-layer structure, insulated, zippered and removable, and it goes quite above the ground so you have a bath-tub profile, see the picture:

The removable zippered floor.

Other features

  • There is a small removable loft on the ceiling, here you can place the torch.
  • On the side you have a long set with 8 mesh pockets for storage.
  • Two long removable organizers with many storage elements are on the sides under the windows (you can see them above in the picture with the inner view).
  • There are hooks in the corners so you can pass a cord and hang your stuff.

Please see more in this detailed video:

Who is it for

Regarding the area, you have 52.5 ft² (4.88 m²). The pictures below show a few ways of using this tent, so you realize this is for 2 to 3 people depending on how you use the tent, with or without a stove. So this is plenty of space in both options. I have included it in my list of best 3 person tents for camping.

The floor plan and various ways of using the tent.

Regarding seasons & climate, if you need a tent for extreme cold, this is it. You will hardly find something better for such an environment unless you go for an insulated tent, like this Crua Tri 3 Person Thermo Insulated Waterproof Family Tent, but this is a different concept in any case. So I have included it in my list of best winter camping tents.

The base is with loops for stakes in the corners and in the middle. There are guylines attached to the hub elements on the sides. They claim that the tent is designed to withstand strong winds but there is no information on how strong. Note that the tent is very boxy and tall with its 75 inches (191 cm) peak height.

Regarding the weight & packed size, this is both a heavy and a bulky tent as you would expect. The weight is 44.1 lb (20 kg) and the packed size is huge 61.02 х 9.84 х 9.84 in (155 x 25 x 25 cm). So you need lots of space for such an item in your car.

Regarding the price, it may look a bit steep, but here you have a multifunctional tent for all seasons, with incredibly strong fabric, fully 2-layer construction and both layers are with a very high waterproof rating. As you realize, it comes with a nicely designed stove as well. In view of this, I think this is a great value for the money.

Final thoughts, rating, pros & cons

In the summary of this Russian-Bear Hot Tent with Stove Jack Cuboid 2.20 review, I would stress that there is nothing currently on the market that would match the features of this structure. If you need a reliable tent for very cold weather, this is it. With the included stove you can use this tent in the most extreme cold conditions.

The tent is perfect for couples, for hunters, fishermen, explorers, and also for military camping. The wall that can be open transforms the tent into a much larger structure and you get a dining and sitting area. Fully recommended. I have included it in my list of best 3 person cabin tents for camping.

Please see how I rate this tent against my standard set of criteria. This is a bit of a problem here because this tent is everything but standard and it is a bit hard to rate it using the usual criteria.
