NEMO Ramsey 15 Sleeping Bag Review – Several Specific Features

Last Modified: 12/04/2023

This NEMO Ramsey 15 Sleeping Bag review is about a very packable insulated mummy-style sleeping bag with a treated down-fill and with several specific features that include vents, a waterproof foot box, and a blanket fold.

Key features & benefits

  • Waterproof and breathable feet zone.
  • Treated down fill.
  • Blanket fold.
  • Thermo vents.
  • Very packable.

What type is this – who is it for

Here you have a typical mummy-style bag as you realize from the picture above. So the foot box is rather narrow and they built it waterproof but breathable in that section, something you will need in a tent if you are a tall person and you touch the wet wall of the tent.

The bag is a 3-season tool for hiking, backpacking, and camping and with an official 15-degree rating. It is built in two sizes, regular (R) and long (L). The weight of the regular bag is 2 lb 7 oz (1.12 kg), so I would not call it super lightweight, it is quite typical.

The R size is for people up to 6 ft (183 cm) and the L for people up to 6 ft 6 in (198 cm).

Construction & features

This is a standard tapered mummy cut for a reduced weight and packed size. The shell fabric is 30D nylon ripstop, durable water-repellent. The lining fabric is 30D nylon taffeta also DWR. The main zipper is on the left side. The bag has several specific features worth mentioning, so here they are.

Blanket Fold at the opening

So this is a small piece that looks like a blanket, see the picture below. You can tuck it in and it will make a baffle under the chin and protect you from the cold air entering in. But if you feel warm enough, you just push it out.

Thermo Gills design

These are two openings with zippers in the chest section of the bag, they are visible in the picture above. Just unzip as much as you need to regulate the temperature.

Foot box

Here you have a material different from the rest of the bag, a 40D nylon ripstop OSMO DWR. This is a waterproof but breathable area, so the bag is protected from the condensation in the tent, and this is the section which would get in contact with the walls.

Down insulation

The insulation is 650-fill Nikwax Hydrophobic down. So it provides water-repellency and the down remains dry longer than an untreated down, and it also dries faster if it becomes wet. These features are similar to synthetic materials, but those are always heavier and less compressible. Note that their NEMO Riff 15 Degree bag is with an even better fill.

Other features

You have a compression stuff sack included with the bag (shown below) and a much larger storage bag where you should keep it when not in use at home.

The section around the face is with a down-insulated draft tube, and here you also have a drawcord to adjust the hood around the face.

The bag compresses to a very small package.

Final thoughts, rating, pros & cons

So in the summary of this NEMO Ramsey 15 Sleeping Bag review I would stress again that this is a quality item for a 3-season use and with a very good temperature rating. It comes with several innovative features. The fill is a good quality down that maintains it thermal efficiency even if it becomes wet. The shell is with a DWR treatment to protect the insulation.

All in all, this is a typical quality product by NEMO, and I can fully recommend it. Note that they also have a 30-degree version from the same series.

See how I rate it for several parameters:
