Falzarego Pass Italy Dolomites

The Falzarego Pass is in Italy in the Dolomites mountain range, on the road from Cortina d’Ampezzo towards Sella Group mountains, with good road connections from three sides.

Location and coordinates

Here are the basic data:

• Elevation: 2105 m (6906 ft).
• Range: Dolomites.
• Coordinates: 46°31′8″N, 12°0′34″E.

When you approach Falzarego Pass from the east, i.e., coming from Cortina d’Ampezzo, the elevation gain is quite slow and without the usual many bends. This makes it very different from the other high mountain passes in the area. 

But directly at the pass the road splits into two directions, one going to the Arabba area, and the other to Corvara valleys. These two roads will allow you to go around the Sella Moutain group.

The road towards Corvara valley goes over Passo Valparola which is in the close vicinity of the Falzarego Pass, probably only one kilometer or so. If you continue this way, you will get to Gardena Pass and also to Sella Pass.

But if you take the road from the pass towards the south-west, see the map above, you can get to Arabba and also to the Pordoi Pass.

Both of these two roads are much steeper as compared to the Cortina approach. From this all you realize that the area is full of mountain passes, and it is also with high peaks around, so it is very attractive.

When you approach Falzarego Pass from Cortina, you will have the beautiful Tofana Di Roses on your right side. At some point you will see a side road which you will have on the right that will take you to Rifugio Dibona which is a convenient start point if you want to climb Tofana Di Roses. Falzarego Pass to Monte Lagazuoi route

When you are at the Falzarego Pass, you might want to make some tours around. So here is one very attractive to the Monte Lagazuoi which is directly above the pass on its north side. The picture below shows it on the cliffs:

When I was on the summit of Tofana Di Roses, this is how I saw the Lagazuoi hut, it is hardly visible on the edge of the cliffs:

If you have no time or desire to walk all the way up, note that you also have a lift directly from the pass. There is a large parking area where you can leave the car.

From Falzarego Pass to Ferrata Lipella and Tofana Di Roses

In summary, Falzarego Pass in Italy is in a very attractive environment and on the road that is popular among cyclists and motorbikes riders. When you get there, you have lots of options to hike around, and there are huts where you can stay.
