This Deuter AViANT Voyager 65+10 pack for men is an incredibly functional and durable backpack with an adjustable harness, a daypack, a transport cover bag, and much more. Keep reading.
Key features & benefits
- Adjustable torso length.
- Steel frame.
- Three access points.
- Transport cover doubles as a rain cover.
- Detachable daypack.
So what this Deuter AViANT Voyager 65+10 is about
Deuter has been around for well over one century, and they only build backpacks. Nevertheless, they do not release new series as often as Osprey or Gregory. But those packs that they release are built to last and you can see them on the market for many years. So this AViANT Voyager 65+10 is a completely new product from their series that includes also a Deuter Avian Voyager 60+10 pack for women.
What is + 10 in the name
This is a huge pack with 65 liters volume, equally suitable for travel and for backcountry tours. The number +10 describes the fact that you have an expandable collar which adds extra 10 liters of volume if/when you need it.
So its total volume can be 75 liters, and many packs from this brand have such a feature. This implies dual drawcords on the collar. The lid is floating and adjustable, to accommodate for such an expansion. The main compartment included one large storage space plus a huge internal sleeve.
Access points
This is a pack with three access points that include the following:
- You have the classic top access under the mentioned lid.
- There is a huge U-shaped zippered opening on the front. It is shown in the picture below.
- There is also a separate zippered bottom compartment with a zippered divider as the third access point, it is on the left side in the picture below. I wish to stress that the divider is with a zipper so it closes the space between the two compartments and small items cannot slide to the bottom compartments. This is not so in many other packs on the markets where you have just a shelf. Deuter always adds a zipper here.
You can unzip the divider and have access to the main compartment from the bottom. You can also unzip it and use the whole inner area as a single compartment.
Rain cover & transport cover
In the zippered pocket on the bottom, you have a waterproof transport cover that also doubles as a rain cover. This you can use to store the pack when you transport it on the plain. You have a zipper to close it completely to protect the pack and its straps.
The cover bag is with two reinforced grab handles, plus a small sleeve for address and name.
Daypack
This is an extra bonus that comes in a dedicated pocket on the front of the main pack which is equipped with a buckle on the top. As you realize from the picture below, it comes with fully padded shoulder straps and with a side pocket. You can use it as a city-tour pack or a summit pack when used outdoor.
This daypack can be attached to the front when this is more convenient for you. In this case, you can use the front pocket on the main pack for some extra gear. The picture below shows how the daypack looks when attached on the front, you attach it to two straps on the shoulder harness:
The daypack is with a padding on its backpanel, and comes with an internal sleeve where you can store a 13 inches computer. It also has a top zippered pocket with a key clip inside. As mentioned above, one side pocket is there as well for a water bottle or an umbrella.
In view of all these features, I have included this Deuter AViANT Voyager 65+10 pack in my list of best backpacks with daypacks.
NFC Technology
This is something extra, please see what they say about this:
Other features
Suspension
Here you have what they call the Contact system, based on a spring steel frame and integrated framesheet for structural support and load-hauling capability. The harness is ladder-type adjustable, this is what they call the VariQuick system, easy to use and reliable, see it in the picture below. You realize also how incredibly well padded this all is.
Load-lifter straps and an adjustable sternum strap are in place, and the hip belt is with dual V-shaped front belt straps on both sides. This provides a perfect hugging of the hips when you cinch the belt. This system they call Ergonomic Comfort Lock (ECL).
So this is a system very similar to what they use in their Aircontact and Aircontact Lite packs, very reliable and built to last for years. I am a user of Deuter packs and cannot say enough about their durability. All these packs pass through extensive field-testing before they get to the market.
Pockets
- The lid is with one huge top pocket equipped with a key clip, and one pocket on its underside.
- Dual stretch pockets are on the sides.
- One large front pocket (or a sort of holder or sleeve) is for the daypack.
- There is one pocket on the hip belt. I wonder why not two.
- I already mentioned a zippered bottom pocket for the rain cover.
Attachment elements and straps
- Starting from the lid, you have four attachment loops on the top. They are visible in the pictures above.
- Dual compression straps are on each side of the pack.
- Dual straps are on the bottom compartment.
- One carry handle is on the bottom.
- One carry loop is above the shoulder straps.
- There are attachment straps on the shoulder harness.
Materials
The fabric is incredibly durable, and you have already seen about its steel frame. So the pack is heavy, in fact it is heavier than the Osprey Archeon 70 pack that has been launched recently.
But see the fabric; you have incredibly durable 420D Polyamide and 600D Polyester with PU coating, both tear-resistant and strong. So this is a high-performance material, PFC-free and with dirt- and water-repellent impregnation.
They build this pack in two different colors. All the features of this pack you can see in this video, it is in German but you will see everything, this should be good enough:

Final thoughts, rating, pros & cons
So if you want a pack that will last for years and that will be equally good on your trekking tours and on travel, this Deuter Aviant Voyager 65+10 Ergonomic Travel Pack for Men is the right choice.
The price is steep but this pack offers a lot, see for example its detachable daypack that adds lots of versatility to this pack. So if you can afford it you will have a pack built in the best tradition of Deuter. Fully recommended.

Hello. Thank you for your wonderful website.
I want to start backpacking travel. And want to choose best deuter backpack.
Which one of this has best reputation?
1 AVIANT VOYAGER 65+10
2 AIRCONTACT CORE 65+10 SL
3 FUTURA AIR TREK 60+10
I like the aviant voyager but want your advice.
And can you tell me does airlines accept to carry backpack more than 40 L?
Thank you so much

Thank you for the kind words. So if this is about urban backpacking, perhaps Aviant Voyager would be my first suggestion because of its day pack.
But if you want a ventilated design, definitely go for the Futura Air Trek packs, they are excellent for travel and for outdoors.
Cannot say much about airlines, there are different rules. This is more about dimensions than about volume, so these packs are likely too long.
