Key features & benefits

  • Dome tent.
  • Freestanding.
  • 2 Windows.
  • Fiberglass poles.
  • Floor vent.
  • Incredible price.

What this MOON LENCE Camping Tent is about

So this is the smallest tent in this dome series by Moon Lence, and they build it in two different colors. This is a very simple and easy to use construction with one door and two windows. The tent is supported with two main poles visible in the picture below.

It comes with a partial coverage fly and this is both good and bad. The good is that you have an easy access because you do not have to deal with the vestibule all the time. They have added a short brow pole that raises the fly and creates two small brims (the picture below), this is what allows for the mentioned windows and the views around. This also makes the tent fully freestanding. But note that you have 9 pegs and 4 ropes included so always fix the tent to the ground.

The side view below shows that the front brim protects the door with its top window, so you can keep it with the mesh most of the time and have views and ventilation.

The bad in such a design is that there is no storage space, so all you have is inside the tent. Note that the tent is quite low, you have a peak height of 48 inches (122 cm).

Ventilation

The picture without the fly reveals that you have plenty of mesh on the ceiling, and the two windows are also double layer structures with mesh and with zippered panels. But the picture below shows the inner view and the view from the back.

So you realize they have added a large floor vent on the back. This will always create enough vertical airflow. On the other hand, the two brims make the fly shallow and they act like fly vents, so vapor can easily escape and condensation should be minimal. All in all, this is a nicely-ventilated tent, there is nothing to object here.

The materials

The poles are shock-corded fiberglass, there are 3 of them in total. They attach to the tent with clips on the canopy and with the pin and ring elements in the corners. The main element in the package are presented in the picture, there are 4 ropes also that are not shown here.

The fabric

You have a 63D 190T polyester fly and walls, with a 1000 mm waterproof rating, and B3 mesh, with SBS zippers. All the seams are taped. The floor seems to be polyethylene, it is thick and looks reliable.

Other features include a couple of wall pockets, and a lantern hook on the ceiling. The window panels can be rolled and fixed in place with toggles.

Who is it for

Regarding the area, the declared capacity is 2 people, and the tent provides an area of 34.4 ft² (3.2 m²). This makes 17.2 ft² (1.6 m²) per person and this is enough. But note that there are no vestibules for storage.

Regarding the weight & packed size, with 5.95 lb (2.7 kg) and the carry bag that measures 16.5 x 5.9 x 5.9 inches (42 x 15 x 15 cm), this tent is both lightweight and nicely packable. But I do not see it as a backpack-portable tent, there are lighter options for such a use. I have included it in my list of two-person camping tents.

Regarding seasons & climate, this is a summer camping tent or maximum for 2 seasons in the warmer part of the year. With so much mesh you would not feel great in a cold environment, check these tents if you need something of this type.

The partial fly with such brims is not the best design for windy areas, so bear this in mind as well and use this tent for quiet weather conditions.
