Kelty Hoodligan Blanket

Last Modified: 12/04/2023

The Kelty Hoodligan Blanket is a versatile hooded blanket that can be used also as a poncho. It is with synthetic insulation and incredibly affordable.

Key features & benefits

  • Hooded blanket & poncho.
  • Two colors.
  • Synthetic insulation.
  • Stuff sack included.
  • Incredibly good price.

What this is about

Here you have yet another typical Kelty-built product, and this means unique, interesting, and really affordable. They built it with an opening and hood in the middle (hence the word Hoodligan in the name), so you can use it as the pictures below show. There is a pocket to store the mentioned low-profile hood when not in use.

Materials

You have soft brushed polyester fabric on both sides. This is a 75D 210T taffeta on the top and a 190T poly pongee liner. The fill is CloudLoft insulation. They use the same material in many of their blankets and sleeping bags.

Synthetic is good because it preserves its insulating features even if vet. It is easy to maintain and clean. You can also wash such materials in a washing machine. A stuff sack is included, see how it looks:

Who is this Kelty Hoodligan Blanket for

Regarding best use & users, they build it in two different colors, apparently for two genders. But in my view, the colors are such that you can use any no matter your gender. They do not provide any information about its R-value, but I would not expect much. This is a blanket to use in the camp as shown in the picture below.

Regarding the dimensions, it measures 71.65 x 71.65 inches (182 x 182 cm). So this is a square object, and although it is quite wide and can be used perhaps even by two people as a blanket, I find it strange that it is not longer.

To realize what I mean, see this Therm-a-Rest Ramble Down 2-Person Hydrophobic Camping Blanket that measures 88 x 88 inches (224 x 224 cm). So I would say it is a pity that they did not make it longer to be used as a blanket for sleeping. It is great as a camp poncho, but it is hardly a bed blanket.

Regarding the weight, it weighs 2.76 lb (1.25 kg), and note also that its stuff sack measures 15 x 8 inches (38 x 20 cm). So it is backpack-portable, but this is not an item for the trail. It is small enough to be transported even on a bicycle.

Regarding the price, as already mentioned above, this is an incredibly affordable product.
