The Coleman Go Shade Backpack Sun Shade is with a steel frame, adjustable walls, a backpack-style carry bag, and a fair price tag.
Key features & benefits
- Double-hub steel frame.
- Adjustable walls.
- Easy to use.
- Great backpack-style carry bag.
- Storage pockets.
- Sandbags included.
- Reasonable price.
The Coleman Go Shade Backpack Sun Shade is a tall freestanding shelter with three adjustable walls. All three of them can be rolled up and fixed under the roof, see the picture. As you realize, this makes the shelter double-layer type on all three sides.
The frame is a double-hub type with 4 legs and several roof poles, so all the tubes are pre-attached and you have a fast-pitch type design. When you set the frame, adding the fabric is easy, you will see in the video below how this is done.
Particularly interesting is its carry bag that is built backpack-style with adjustable straps and even with two mesh pockets on the sides, one is visible below. Observe the carry handle on the top and the zipper. The dimensions are 31 x 6 x 6 inches (79 x 15 x 15 cm).
The frame is with steel shock-corded and hubbed tubes. Note that you also have 6 stakes and 2 guylines included to secure the shelter. The guyout points are on the sides, see the picture below. Note also how the walls are rolled up at two places.
The fabric appears to be polyester and this is what they call UV Guard material that provides UPF 50+ sun protection. This should be good enough for any use, and this is a quite typical value.
- You have 4 sandbags included so fill them and this may be enough to secure the shelter in quiet weather and where the ground is loose so that stakes cannot be used. You can see them in the top picture above.
- There are 4 pouches on the inner walls to keep small items off the ground. See one in the picture:

Who is it for
Regarding the weight & packed size, you have already seen how it looks when packed, and the weight is 10.5 lb (4.8 kg). So I would not describe this shelter as lightweight as they write. Though it is still lighter than the Core Instant Sport Beach Sun Shade, you might want to compare their area/weight ratio.
But the nicely designed carry bag compensates for the weight, and this is indeed a portable shelter that can be transported backpack-style while you ride a bike or just by walking.
Regarding best use, you have adjustable walls and the area is 49 ft² (4.5 m²). In view of the mentioned carry features, this is a nice shelter to be used at the beach, at picnics, and for camping. With the mentioned UV protection you will always have a shade. With adjustable walls, you can regulate the drafts and shade.
Regarding the price, I would say it is fair for such a nicely designed shelter, a great value for the money.
