Last Modified: 12/04/2023

The Coleman Autumn Glen Big & Tall Sleeping Bag is a reliable rectangular synthetic 3-season car camping bag, machine washable and incredibly affordable.

Key features & benefits

  • Synthetic insulation.
  • ZipPlow snag-free patented design.
  • Machine washable.
  • Inner pocket.
  • Roll Control design.
  • Incredible price.

What is in the name

Here you have a sleeping pad that has been around for many years already. This is a rectangular, all-synthetic sleeping bag that can be unzipped completely so you can use it also as a blanket. It can also be zipped to yet another sleeping bag of the same type and you can create a huge bag for you and your partner.

The fabric is polyester and the fill is what they call Coletherm hollow polyester fiber. Note that they have two bags with the same features but with two different temperature ratings of 30 F (-1 C) and 40 F (4 C).

Such materials are easy to clean and to keep clean, you can wash it in a large washing machine. From what I understand this should not be a top loading machine. There is what they call the Thermolock draft tube all the way along the zipper. But note that there is no hood here.

The bag looks similar to their Coleman Brazos Cold Weather Sleeping Bag but the baffles here are different, they are wide and horizontal.

Other features

It comes with several features that are the same for many sleeping bags of this brand. So you have an interior tuck pocket for small items. The bag is thick and bulky and this is why you have their Roll Control system to keep it straight while rolling. This includes some loops and toggles on the sides.

There is also what they call the Comfort Cuff design, which means that the liner goes around the edge in the area of your face.

The zippers are with their ZipPlow snag-free opening and closing design. You also have their no-tie Quick Cord system to keep things cinched tight. A stuff sack is also included.

Who is it for

Regarding the best use & climate, I already mentioned the temperature rating, so in view of this the bag could be described as a 3-season camping item. But bear in mind that there is no hood here, and as always it is best to test it in controlled conditions before going outdoors.

Regarding the size, you have seen the words Big & Tall in the name. So the size is 81 x 39 inches (206 x 99 cm) and they write this is best suited for users of up to 6 ft 4 in (193 cm).

Regarding the weight, this sleeping bag is heavy with its 6.6 lb (3 kg) but I do not see this as a big deal, it is built to be used as a camping bag and you are not supposed to carry it on the trail. The packed size is also substantial, it folds in half its width and you have a tube that measures (L x D) 20 x 13 inches (51 x 33 cm). So you can indeed transport it even on a bicycle.

Regarding the price, it is simply great, a great value for the money.

Final thoughts & rating

In summary, if you are on a budget and still want to have a reliable branded sleeping bag, this Coleman Autumn Glen Big & Tall Sleeping Bag is the one to consider. It looks simple but it comes with a set of very useful features typical for this brand, and it is very wide and comfortable. Fully recommended. I have included it in my list of best rectangle sleeping bags.

Below you can see how I rate it against my usual rating criteria. I apply them consistently for easy comparison, but you can simply disregard the weight and even the packed size.
