CamelBak Sequoia 22 For Women – Review of a Hydration Pack

Last Modified: 12/03/2023

CamelBak Sequoia 22 for women is a new hydration pack version launched recently. This backpack comes with a bonus 3-liter Crux reservoir, and it features an excellent back ventilation system.

Key features & benefits

  • 3-liter reservoir included.
  • External insulated hydration compartment.
  • Very advanced back panel padding and ventilation design.
  • Very durable construction.

Who is it for

This pack is a part of a mini-series that includes hydration backpacks of 18 and 22 liters. This is a women-specific design, with the corresponding hip belt profile, with a shorter back length, and with anatomical S-shaped shoulder straps that are with really generous padding for such a small pack.

Being a hydration pack with 22 liters of volume and with good attachment elements, it is suitable for any light and fast day tour.

Overview

This is a panel-loading type hydration day pack with a very long zipper for the main compartment. The main compartment is without any internal organization, just a space for storage. The materials are very durable, with 200D ripstop nylon body fabric and 400D bottom fabric.

Water reservoir

This is a hydration pack as its name says, so indeed it comes with a bonus 3-liter reservoir stored in its separate zippered compartment behind the harness. Note that this compartment is with insulation. So the total volume of the pack is 19 liters, plus those 3 liters in the separate compartment.

The water hose is with CamelBak’s Quicklink design, which means that you can remove the reservoir easily without moving the hose. The bite valve is with a very high water flow rate. The reservoir is with a very large opening, suitable for filling it fast and for cleaning purposes, see the picture above.

Suspension

I already mentioned nice padding on the shoulder straps (see also the picture below), so this is a part of a really excellent suspension system which is based on an NV back panel supported by an internal frame sheet. So there is no metal frame here, but this is not so crucial for the size.

The ventilation is very good here due to two horizontal padded sections (one is visible above) which keep the back separated from your back. They are quite unique by design and built for an optimal ventilation. The massive lumbar padding shown below is surprising to see in such a small pack.

The hip belt is wide and well padded and it hugs the hips properly, and the sternum strap is adjustable rail-type, see the picture above. Note that there is no torso length adjustability here; only what you get is through the load lifters and the usual adjustability of the shoulder straps.

Pockets

The pack is with many pockets, outside and inside, so see what you have. First, I am a bit surprised and disappointed that they built only one hip-belt pocket on the right side (see it above); I cannot see the reason why not having it on the other side as well.

On the sides you have the usual stretch mesh pockets. Note that you also have dual side compressions traps, so these side pockets can take a lot of loads and you can fix it in place.

On the top you have a zippered scratch-free pocket for electronics and glasses. On the front there is yet another big zippered pocket with internal organization, So inside you have one zippered and two mesh pockets, plus a key clip.

Between this front pocket and the main compartment, you have a large stash pocket which has mesh on the sides and the upper side compression straps are attached to it, so you can cinch it and secure the items stored in it.

Attachment elements and straps

As already mentioned, you have dual side straps visible in the pictures above, so 4 in total. On the bottom, there are two webbing loops for poles, and those are in pairs with dual bungee cords higher on the front. This is quite enough for a pack of this size and purpose.

The pack is equipped with load lifters, and you also have tension straps on the hip belt.

Rating, pros & cons

I would conclude this CamelBak Sequoia 22 for women review by stressing again the excellent suspension and padding of this pack. The price is steep, but this is a quality tool and the reservoir adds a lot of value. So all in all, a great pack which I can warmly recommend to anybody. I have included it in my list of best day hiking backpacks for women.

The rain cover is not included but it can be ordered separately, see it here. See how I rate this pack:

Just to stress here they have the corresponding pack for men under the name Fourteener, with the same features. It would be great to hear from you, so let me know what you think, there is a comment box below. Thank you for reading and have a nice day.
