The Snow Peak Amenity Dome S Tent is a true double-layer tent with a massive highly-waterproof fly that creates two asymmetric vestibule and three doors, and all is supported with four high quality duralumin poles. This is a tent for year-round use.
Key features & benefits
- Extended dome-type tent.
- True double-layer.
- Three doors.
- One large vestibule and one small vestibule.
- Aluminum poles.
- Waterproof.
- Compact when packed.
- Generous space for two people.
What is in the name
Here you have the smallest tent in the Amenity Dome series of three tents, hence the letter S in the official name, all built in the same extended-dome shape.
The picture below shows the tent without the fly, and this is the side view that shows the width of the tent which is 59 inches (150 cm).
The inner tent is fully freestanding and you can rotate it and move in the camp. It is moderately tall, the inner peak height is 47.42 inches (120 cm).
There are two large D-shaped double-layer doors on the inner tent, with zippered mesh and zippered panels. In the picture below, I have rolled the panel to the side and fixed it with toggles. The same you can do on the rear door.
As you realize, the third pole makes the front with the main door almost completely vertical, this is clear from the picture below.
This all is protected with a massive full-coverage fly that creates two asymmetric vestibules, and it includes three different doors. The picture below shows the main vestibule and its two doors.
Note that this front vestibule is angled with respect to the axis of the tent, you will realize this from the floor plan below. In fact, the strap on the ground visible in the pictures above shows exactly how much it is shifted to the left; the supporting pole attaches in its corner on the right, and next to the canopy pole on the left.
The main door on the left is with two zippers, and there are holes with rings in the bottom corners of the flap. This allows for an awning setup (the poles can be ordered separately). You can use here your trekking poles as well, with two extra pieces of guylines.
The term extended dome I used above means that it has this large vestibule extension with its own pole which is added from outside as you see in the picture:
The rear vestibule is small, and its main purpose is to protect the inner door. It is with a central zipper, and the area which it covers is good enough to keep your footwear, it will be protected from the rain.
You get some idea about the rear vestibule from the picture below, I have rolled one of its flaps and fixed to the side, there are toggles and loops in place for this purpose. Note that I dd not put guylines, but there are 6 of them included.
Materials
The package included the following elements shown in the picture below:
- Fly sheet.
- Inner tent.
- 4 Poles.
- Duralumin pegs (16 pieces).
- 6 Guylines.
- Carry bag, and pole & peg cases.
- One repair pipe.
Poles: You have four poles and this is a high quality duralumin construction with 0.37 inches (9.3 mm) diameter used for the two main (orange) poles, and 0.33 inches (8.5 mm) diameter for the other two (green and gray).
They are color-coded, three colors in total, and shock corded, and with an easy to use pin-and-ring attachment to the tent’s base.
On the canopy you have sleeves for all four poles, and on the sides clips. So setting this tent up is easy and there is nothing to guess. One person can easily set this tent up in just a few minutes, I normally use it solo and this means I set it up alone.
In any case, you can use their manual if you need more details.
Fabric: The fly is a 75D polyester with a minimum 1800 mm PU coating and Teflon water-repellent. The inner tent is a 68D breathable polyester. A UV protection treatment has been applied to the Fly material. They write about UV protection treatment applied to reduce the effects of ultraviolet rays.
These are the same materials they use in many of their tents; I have one larger tent from the same brand with the same fabric, the Snow Peak Alpha Breeze tent.
The bath-tub floor is a moderately durable 210D polyester with the same minimum 1800 mm coating.
Ropes: There are two types (A and B), and their attachment points are presented in the picture below. Note that they do not come pre-attached, you will find them in the sack together with pegs.
Other details:
- My tent is in the brown color shown in the pictures. But they also have an ivory version. I have yet another tent from them, the Alpha Breeze, and it is ivory, and I can tell you that this brown color works better in the case of lots of sunlight.
- There are two wall pouches in the inner tent.
- A few loops are on the ceiling so you can pass a piece of cord to attach things, or use them to attach lanterns.
- The zippers are really a good quality, and they work very well.
Ventilation
The inner tent is all a breathable taffeta, and there are no separate mesh areas on the canopy. The only mesh is:
- On the double-layer doors.
- On the inner tent there is a triangular fixed mesh but it is with a zippered panel as the second layer, see the picture, so this is a fully closable inner roof vent.
Regarding floor vents, they have done something clever. Both mentioned doors allow you to create such vents. This is achieved by adding toggles and loops on the door panel on the bottom area.
You can see this in the picture; when you zip the door panel, the lower area remains open. This is what I was doing in my recent overnight rain camping.
But the two mentioned large double-layer doors that are fully protected under the massive fly. Therefore you can keep them with mesh whenever you need more air circulation.
The fly has one fly vent with a support Velcro bar shown below. It matches the vent on the inner tent.
Having one more vent would be better, but all in all there is not much to object to this design. You can generate as much air circulation as you want, but all is closable if you feel cold.
In my rain testing, humidity was almost maximum, I kept the roof vent open but the inner vent was closed, and I did not have any issue with condensation in the inner tent. The canopy taffeta did the job excellently.

Who is this Snow Peak Amenity Dome S Tent for
Regarding the best use & climate, when you see the inner tent canopy, you realize it is all taffeta. And above it you have the massive fly to protect the inner.
So this is a true double-layer tent, and in my view it can be used year-round in any seasons and climate. If you feel cold, you can close the inner tent vent on the ceiling and you can do the same with the two doors. This will create an inner tent canopy dome that is a fully-enclosed taffeta.
But if you are in a warm climate, the two inner doors can be used with their mesh layer only, and you can have as much air circulation as you wish.
The tent is also quite aerodynamic and low profile, so I am sure it can be used even in very windy places. This you realize when you see that the guylines anchor the fly at 12 points, and you also have additional 6 stake points for the tent’s base.
Note that the poles create three intersection points that make the structure strong, and at two of these places you have dual clips that attach to both poles, and also the fly attaches there with its Velcro tabs.
Also, the waterproof rating is very good, and I know also from my previous experience with this brand that you can rely on their products. In the video below you can see my rain testing of the tent:
Regarding the size and capacity, the tent is officially for two people. They do not provide the exact numbers regarding the floor area. The pictures below may help to get some idea, for two people this is quite a lot.
But my own measurements show that the length of the inner tent is in fact 82.7 inches (210 cm), and the width is 150. So the true inner area is 33.9 ft² (3.15 m²).
The vestibule is of an irregular shape, my estimate is that here you have around 25.8 ft² (2.4 m²). This makes the total covered area around 59.7 ft² (5.55 m²), and this is plenty of space for two users.
The floor plan below tells you what they think about it; according to this the tent can be used by parents with a small child. This is hardly realistic, the width of 59 inches (150 cm), in my view, is for two people only.
Regarding the weight, with 10.8 lb (4.9 kg) the tent is on the heavy side, but this is not a big deal, it is not built for the trail.
The official packed size is 23 x 9 x 7 inches (58 x 23 x 18 cm). But from my measurement it is smaller, around 19.7 x 7.9 inches (50 x 20 cm).
In view of the overall size of the tent, this is quite compact. So you can easily transport it even on a bicycle, this is what I have been doing already on a couple of my bicycle tours.
The carry bag shown below is large enough so that the tent easily fits inside even if you fold it carelessly.
Regarding the price, I would describe it as fair for such a great tent. Please follow the links below for updates, you have several different sellers to compare.

Final thoughts & rating
In conclusion, the Snow Peak Amenity Dome S Tent has a robust construction, featuring high-quality duralumin poles and a waterproof fly, making it suitable for year-round use.
Its extended dome design offers ample space for two people, with a smart layout that includes three doors and two vestibules, ensuring both convenience and ventilation.
The compact packed size makes it easy to transport, even for bicycle tours, though its weight is on the heavier side. The tent’s versatility in various weather conditions, combined with its durable materials and thoughtful design, makes it a reliable choice for camping enthusiasts.
While the tent excels in many areas, including protection, ease of setup, and ventilation, it does have some drawbacks, such as its heavier weight and premium price.
However, the overall value it offers, with features like the full-coverage fly, generous vestibule space, and high-quality construction, justifies the investment for those seeking a dependable and versatile two-person tent.
All in all, the Snow Peak Amenity Dome S Tent is a well-rounded option for campers who prioritize durability and functionality in diverse climates. I have included it in my list of best two person tents for camping.
