REI Co-op Camp Dreamer Double Sleep System

Last Modified: 04/18/2025

The REI Co-op Camp Dreamer Double Sleep System is a very functional and machine washable 4-component set for outdoor sleeping and camping in up to 2 seasons.

Key features & benefits

  • 4 Components.
  • Double wide quilt.
  • Recycled materials.
  • Bluesign approved.
  • Machine washable.
  • Compact.

What is in the name

So the words Sleep System describe the fact that you have 4 separate components:

  • A two-person top quilt.
  • A cotton top sheet.
  • A fitted bottom sheet.
  • A removable hood.

This set is built to match their REI Co-op Camp Dreamer Double pad, but it is not limited to this only, it will fit nicely with most of double-sized deluxe camping pads. You can use this set even with 2 single pads side-by-side.

The hood is connected with the bottom sheet by a zipper, see the picture. It is not really large so it will not cover the head completely if you use a larger pillow, but it adds to warmth and coziness. It also doubles as a headboard and a pillow retainer and this is very important for people who turn a lot when sleeping.

There is a center loop and toggle in the hood, it is shown below. This you use to attach the quilt, and it allows you and your partner to independently adjust the amount of hood coverage, and also to reduce cold drafts. So this tiny detail adds a lot to overall comfort.

Toggle in the middle of the hood.

The quilt has several toggles on the bottom and on the sides so it cinches around pad for a tucked-in fit, see the picture below. This keeps it in place and adds to its thermal efficiency. But you can keep it open and use as a blanket.

The two cotton sheets also attach to each other, see below how this looks. But here too, you do not have to attach the upper sheet to the base sheet.

Materials

The quilt shell and its underside are both a recycled polyester bluesign approved. The insulation is also recycled polyester fibers, bluesign approved. The two sheets are cotton. All these materials are easy to keep clean and machine washable.

Who is this REI Co-op Camp Dreamer Double Sleep System for

Regarding the best use & climate, they describe it as built for 2-3 season use. It has a hood that helps in preserving warmth, and the quilt is very wide and it wraps around the sleeping pad. The picture below shows how it looks when fully closed. But all in all, I see it as best suited for the warmer part of the year and for 2 seasons maximum.

Very wide and with a hood, designed to preserve warmth.
Very wide and with a hood, designed to preserve warmth.

Regarding the size, this quilt is officially for users that are up to 78 inches (198 cm) tall. Note that its incredible width is such that it wraps completely around two people and around the pad.

Regarding the weight, it can be described as heavy with its 7 lb 3 oz. (3.26 kg). But this is completely immaterial because this is a camping item and you are not supposed to carry it long distances in any case.

The packed size is such that can be described as compact, the carry bag shown below measures 22 x 12 x 12 inches (56 x 30 x 30 cm). So this parameter is far more important than the weight. Clearly, you can transport it even on a motorbike or a bicycle.

It packs small in its nicely designed carry bag.

Regarding the price, it is quite expensive, but after all you have 4 elements in the package. You can check its current price in the link below.

Final thoughts & rating

In summary, this REI Co-op Camp Dreamer Double Sleep System is nicely designed and with attention to details, and this adds to its overall functionality and comfort. You have a pair of pleasant cotton sheets, and the whole set is machine washable. Fully recommended. I have included it in my list of best camping quilts and blankets.

Below you can see how I rate this set against my usual rating criteria. I apply them consistently so that you can easily compare it with other items of this type, but you can ignore some of its rating numbers that are not important to you.
