What this Coleman Coastline 3 Plus Tent is about
This tent is from a series of several tents than have been around for more than a decade already. The tents are originally built for the EU market with some standard features that include a great waterproof rating, a large storage area, etc.
The picture below shows its floor plan and some dimensions. So you have an inner tent (on the right in the picture) within the full-coverage shell. The inner tent attaches to the shell with toggles. You can leave it there when you pack the tent, so it is easier to pitch it next time. This is also a dry-setup structure, so the inner remains protected if you are forced to set the camp in rain.
The tent is low profile, you can see its peak height in the picture above. The shell creates a large vestibule, the yellow area on the left in the picture.
Note that the vestibule is floored, and the floor is bathtub style so you are safe from the ground water, and it is removable, see how it looks:
The doors & windows
There are 3 external doors in the vestibule. This may be convenient in the camp if the space is limited and you are forced to use one side or another, or if the rain changes direction you can use the one that is less exposed to the wind. The front door has two zippers on the sides so you can roll the flap above as shown in the picture below, or you can create an awning.
The inner tent’s door is a two-layer type with a full-size zippered mesh and a zippered panel. There are two solid windows in the vestibule, this is cool to have so you can see the situation around while being fully protected, pity there are no shutters on them.
Ventilation
The inner tent is from a breathable material, and there is a gap between the shell and the inner canopy for ventilation. You have already seen about its huge inner door which has one mesh layer, so you can use it that way as long as you are not cold. This will provide as much ventilation as you want.
But when you have to keep the external doors closed, they have added several roof vents. So you have them two in the vestibule, and one is on the back side behind the inner tent. I would say this is all done as it should be, there is not much one could object here.
Materials
The fabric: The fly is a 185T polyester, and its official waterproof rating is 3000 mm. All seams are taped and this is a fire-resistant material.
The inner tent’s sewn-in floor is a bathtub polyethylene, the same material is used for the removable vestibule’s floor. The mesh sections are a no-see-um bug-resistant material.
The poles: You have 3 fiberglass shock-corded and color-coded loops, easy to use and with the usual grommets attachment at the base. On the canopy you have sleeves and clips. They write that the pole sections are short enough to be packed easily into a rucksack. But this is a heavy tent and you would not want to carry it anywhere.
Other details include inside pockets, and an integrated cable slot. You have a carrying bag, guy ropes, and all necessary tent pegs.
Who is this Coleman Coastline 3 Plus Tent for
Regarding the best use & climate, it is surprising that on Amazon they describe it as a two season tent. You have seen its fully closable inner tent plus its great shell, so this is a true double-layer tent and it is definitely good enough at least for a 3-season use. When you close all its doors, you are fully protected, see how it looks:
Regarding the size, you have the inner protected area of 45.2 ft² (4.2 m²) plus 40.7 ft² (3.8 m²) under the vestibule. So now you realize why they use the word Plus in the name. This is a lot of space for 3 users.
Regarding the weight, the tent is heavy, it weighs 15.45 lb (7.01 kg), but it is best to check its area/weight ratio, this is how I rate all tents here in the site. In this way, its weight looks quite moderate.
The same holds for its packed size which is 26 x 7.1 x 7.1 inches (66 x 18 x 18 cm). This is excellent for such a big tent.
Regarding the price, it is simply incredible. This is why, as of the moment of writing this text, the tent is Amazon-UK bestseller number 1 in the category of tunnel tents. This may change later, but this tells you why the tent has been on the market for more than a decade already. This is a great value for the money.
