What this is about
This Guest House 4 is an extended dome structure so it is not freestanding and this is mainly because of the extension supported by one loop pole. It must be staked to have the tent functional. The picture below without the fly shows its main dome part and the extension behind.
This is a 2-room structure with the bigger room on the back and a smaller on the front. The picture below shows the back area with a larger room. Observe the fly which is rolled up for stargazing.
You have a full-coverage fly that offers full protection against elements. It is shown in the picture below with all vestibules closed. You will love to know that it comes with 3 vestibules in total and they are differently designed. The largest on the front is with two parallel zippers on the side so you can unzip it and create an awning as shown in the top picture above. Note that those awning poles are included.
The inner tent is with 4 doors, and 3 of them are on the three sides of the front room, while the back room is served with one huge inner door plus one smaller side door. So this is an excellent organization with easy access for all the users. All the doors are visible in the pictures:
You can get some idea about the inner space in this picture below which shows the view from the back room through the inner door. Note the back room’s side door on the right:
Who is it for
Space-wise, the declared capacity is 4 people, so let’s see how realistic this is. The dimensions are shown in the picture below so this gives the floor area of 96 ft² (8.9 m²). This means 23.5 ft² (2.2 m²) per person and this is more than enough. Note that on the Marmot’s site they give the floor area of 113 ft² (10.5 m²) which contradicts the dimensions given in the picture below which they provide.
But the three vestibules add 23.5 ft² (2.2 m²), so the total covered area is 119.5 ft² (11.1 m²). This is a generous space for 4 campers. This tent is also perfect for couples who would have the back room as a sleeping area and the front room as a living area.
Seasons-wise & climate-wise, this is a true 3-season tent. For a warmer climate you have plenty of mesh and vents for air circulation, and you can also use various roll-up variants with the fly.
In the case of a cooler environment, the back room is more enclosed (with more taffeta) than the front room. The fly is also full-coverage type and the poles are top quality, so this tent will protect you in any weather conditions.
Weight-wise, with its 15 lb 1.5 oz (6.85 kg) this is a lightweight tent and you will realize this also from the comparison table below. But this is a camping tent and not designed to be carried on the trail.
The packed size for such a large space is reasonable, it measures (L x D) 29 x 10 inches (73.7 x 25 cm) when packed.
Materials
The poles
There are 4 poles here, 3 keep the tent up and one shorter is a cross pole that lifts the walls. This is the best material on the market, DAC DA17 poles. This type is developed specifically for larger camping tents and the brand behind this is DAC, the leading poles manufacturer.
The fabric
The fabric is also top quality. The floor fabric is 70D 100% polyester taffeta with 2000 mm waterproof rating F/R, note that this is a catenary cat.
The fly is 68D 100% polyester taffeta 1500 mm rating F/R. It attaches to the tent through buckles, see the picture. All the seams are taped. The canopy fabric is 40D 100% polyester No-See-Um mesh F/R and 68D 100% polyester taffeta F/R.
Ventilation
So ventilation is at its best, you have plenty of mesh around as you realize from the pictures. The ceiling is also all mesh. But when you have to keep the vestibules closed, you still have vents on the fly for enough air circulation, one is shown above. There is nothing one could object here.
You have already seen from the pictures that the fly can be rolled up from any side so you can enjoy the sky whenever there is no danger from rain.

- There are many large storage elements on the walls, see the picture below.
- Lamp pocket on the ceiling shown below.
- Poles are with sleeve – clip combo.
- Color-coding is in place for easy setup.
- Light-reflective points.
- Jingle-free nylon zipper pulls.

Marmot Guest House 4 Person Tent vs Competitors
I have decided to show you this Guest House 4 side by side with two other tents with the same declared capacity but built in different styles. So the Chinook Tent is a double-dome and it is also with two rooms.
The Vango Beta 450XL is a tunnel tent and yet another difference is that the floor in the front room is suspended (linked-in) and not sewn-in. Clearly, they all offer practically the same area but the Guest House 4 tent is much lighter. There are differences in prices so please follow the links for more details.

Final thoughts, rating, pros & cons
So this Marmot Guest House 4 Person Tent is nicely built, with perfect organization, great ventilation, and with all quality materials. This is a versatile and functional tent but it comes with a price that may not be for people on a budget. If you can afford it, you will have a great camping tent. I have included it in my list of best 4-person car camping tents.
Please see how I rate it. The same criteria are used for all the tents here in the site so you can compare easily:
