Who is it for & what type is it

With the weight of 8 lb 11 oz (3.96 kg), the Tungsten 4P tent is a camping tool, suitable also for shorter hiking tours and only exceptionally as a backpacking tent.

This is a standard 3-season tent, so do not think of using it in harsh winter conditions or in situations with very strong winds like those you may have at high altitudes above the tree line. I have just returned from the Alps where I have experienced incredible storms on high mountain passes with ice, snow, and rain in midsummer, so trust me on this, see a few pictures from my recent text.

Its floor area is 4.9 square meters, so it is good enough for four people as the name suggests, but it is far better as a 3-person tool, as usual.

This is a freestanding tent, so you can pitch it on any surface and in principle no need to anchor it to the ground, but I would strongly advise doing so whenever possible; stakes and guy-out lines are included in the package.

Description

The Marmot Tungsten 4 person tent is a reliable outdoor tool with quite durable materials but still relatively lightweight. So most of it is 68D fabric (the canopy, fly, and floor) and the mesh is 40D. As mentioned above, it comes with a custom fit footprint which you may use if you are camping at places with a car access, or you may leave it at home to shed the weight in cases you are carrying it on your long adventures.

The setup is made easy due to color coding, and it can be done by one person in just a couple of minutes. The is a 4-pole construction with two main poles making the usual X-shaped structure, plus two brow poles that make the side walls vertical. This together with pre-bent pole sections in the sleep zone adds a lot of volume.

The tent body is attached to the pole structure by very efficient and easy to use clips. The floor is bathtub style, with all seams taped while most of the upper part is mesh. This mesh and the vents in the rain fly should give an optimal ventilation.

Inside you have a lamp shade pocket for your headlamp and it provides a pleasant ambient light, and you also have interior pockets for small items. The doors on vestibules and on the tent body can be rolled to the side and fixed, see the picture below.

Waterproofness rating

The rating for the fly and the floor is 1500 and 2000 mm, so this is quite good, and in view of the sealed seams, the bathtub construction, and the included footprint, this should provide a complete protection from elements in a normal 3-season use.
