The Mountain Hardwear Bridger 4 Tent comes with quality aluminum poles, two vestibules, a footprint, and you also have plenty of storage pouches everywhere.
Key features & benefits
- Aluminum poles.
- Large porch and vestibules.
- Many storage pouches.
- Footprint included.
What is in the name
This Mountain Hardwear Bridger 4 Tent is the smaller in their new series that includes also a 6-person version. The tent is a dome type but you have a short ridge pole that makes the main door completely vertical. You can see this in the picture below that shows the tent without the fly.
You can see also its footprint that is included in the package. Note that the tent is moderately tall, the peak height is 66 in (168 cm). The picture below shows its floor plan and the most important dimensions.
Note that there is a porch on one side and it extends into a double-zipper vestibule. This all area is of a size similar to the inner floored space. The rear vestibule is quite symbolic, mainly suitable for shoes and boots.
The picture below shows the main access point. The vestibule flap and its side walls are rolled up and to the sides. This you can use when the sky is clear and you can sit in the shade on the porch. Observe that the footprint is on the ground. You can move it to the side if you use camping chairs under the porch.
The rear vestibule is with a central zipper, and here too you can roll it flaps to the sides and keep with toggles.
The tent is not freestanding, so you have to stake it properly. This is mainly because of its extra loop that supports the porch cover. Below you can see how it looks when the vestibule is closed.
The tent has many storage options. These include gear loft shown in the picture, plus several large pockets in the inner room.
There are also two removable storage sets underneath the porch. This means 6 pockets in total, see one set in the picture:
Materials
The poles: The tent comes with four aluminum shock corded and color coded poles. The attachment to the tent is through grommets on the ground and clips on the canopy.
There are 10 stakes and 7 guylines included in the package.
The fabric: The canopy is a combination of 40D polyester mesh and 75D ripstop polyester. The fly and the floor are the same 68D 210T ripstop polyester with a 1500 mm PU coating. All seams are taped. They claim that the fabric is free of chemical fire retardants.
Ventilation: The canopy has plenty of mesh for vapor to escape, and you can also have lots of air circulation if you keep vestibules unzipped.
But the fly is huge, and if you have to keep everything closed in the case or rain, you would want to have roof vents. They have added just small opening on the vestibule zipper, and this is far from enough.
Who is it for
Regarding the best use & climate, the tent offers full protection for a 3-season campong. It is not particularly high and the profile is smooth and aerodynamic, so it will work great even in very windy places.
Regarding the size, the inner is not very large, you have only 62.5 ft² (5.8 m²), and the tent is officially for four people. This would mean 15.6 ft² (1.45 m²) per person, and this is not much.
But you have the porch and vestibules, so this changes everything. This is why my rating for the area is very high, see below.
Regarding the weight, the tent is heavy with its 18 lb 9.4 oz (8.43 kg), but it is built as a car camping tent so this is not a big deal.
The packed size is more important, and it is such that you can transport it even on a bicycle. So I would describe it as very compact. The carry bag is really nicely designed, see how it looks:
Regarding the price, it is very steep. But they describe it as an “ultimate campsite tent made with mountaineering technology” and they are right.
