These boots are described in detail in my separate text, so please have a look there. Here, just to say that the number 7 in the name describes the height (in inches) of the collar. The boots come with 200 grams 3M Thinsulate synthetic fibers, and with a few more features introduced against the cold.

A bit more about the Oboz company and about the technology they use in their boots, please visit my separate page here in the site.

Vasque Pow Pow II boots

Vasque Women's Pow Pow II UltraDry Insulated Winter Boot.
Vasque Women’s Pow Pow II UltraDry Insulated Winter Boot.

With more than 20 cm shaft height, these boots give a great ankle support, stability, and comfort. They are built from a durable 1.8 mm waterproof suede and a ripstop nylon mesh for shedding snow and slush. The insulation includes 400 grams of Thinsulate Ultra insulation, and Vasque’s proprietary UltraDry waterproof membrane.

The outsole is Vasque’s Venture outsole with a dual density rubber compound, ColdHold Technology, which adheres to cold surfaces with hard, biting perimeter lugs, and softer, more compliant center lugs.

Inside the boot, you have a molded EVA midsole for a comfortable ride while an instep TPU shank delivers midfoot support. On the heel, you have a molded TPU counter which acts as a strap stabilizer on a snowshoe binding as well as a convenient kick-off at the end of the day.

Sorel Women’s Tofino Boots

With only 100 grams of insulation, these boots are not particularly warm, but they are very tall and provide a great protection from elements. In view of their style, I would say they are more winter boots for casual use than true hiking boots. The insulated shaft on this boot is very high, with 12.5 inches from the bottom of the sole. Such a high shaft protects against snow over 10 inches high. There is a very stylish leather strip that goes up the back of the calf, supporting the upper and giving it the shape, you can see it in the picture below. The upper of the boot is treated with a water-resistant finish, so the rain and snow bead up and roll off.

There is a lot of leather detailing throughout the boot, like the lace fixtures, pull tabs, and the mentioned back leather stay. In spite of the high shaft, it is very easy to take off the boots. This is partly due to very long laces which you can loose a lot, and partly due to the internal fleecy lining which makes the interior slippery.

Note, there exists yet another more recent version, SOREL Women’s Tofino II boots.

Ahnu Women’s Northridge Insulated WP Hiking Boot

Ahnu Women's Northridge Insulated WP hiking boots.
Ahnu Women’s Northridge Insulated WP hiking boots.

Inspired by yet another popular Ahnu’s model, the Montara Boots, these Northridge boots are chic and with a lightweight 11 inches shaft which features waterproof nubuck leather suede, and lined with Ahnu’s waterproofing bootie system. The boot is equipped with 200 grams of Thinsulate insulation, which is not so much if you compare them with some other models from the list above.

You have a zipper entry combined with the lace-up functionality which allows for easy access and a custom fit. The Vibram rubber outsole, with deep and effective treads, provides awesome traction on both wet and dry surfaces.

These boots are very comfortable and this is their best feature. The EVA midsole provides heel and arch support and extra shock absorption. The boots are fitted with a TPU shank, which helps increase support and stability.

These boots also offer superb breathability. They run true to the size, and you can wear them with your pants tucked in or out.

You can read more about Ahnu brand in my separate post. Note also that there are several of their hiking boots presented in the site, like the Montara and Sugarpine boots.

Summary

So, to conclude this text about insulated hiking boots for women, these are truly great and very popular models. I am not giving my rating for the boots mainly because they all are so different. For example, Sorel Women’s Tofino Boots are very tall and more suitable for casual winter use than for hiking. On the other hand, Ahnu Northridge boots are also with a tall shaft, but these boots are far more suitable for hiking. Now, if I would have to choose, my number one for hiking would be the Columbia model or the Oboz Bridger 7, while the stylish Sorel Tofino would be my preference for a casual winter use.

If you are looking for something similar for men, please see my another text.

It will be interesting to hear your opinion, there is a comment box below. Thank you for reading and have a nice day.
