Key features & benefits

  • Double wide.
  • 100% Recycled materials.
  • Two sizes.
  • Reasonable price.

What is in the name

So here you have a double-wide rectangular and hoodless sleeping bag which they build in two sizes regular (R) and long (L), you will see the numbers below.

The word Eco in the name should indicate the fact that this is one of their most sustainable products with a “Exploration Without Compromise” badge. This implies 100% recycled materials used in its construction.

You have a 50D recycled ripstop polyester shell with a non-PFC (non-perfluorinated) durable water-repellent finish. The liner is also a recycled 50D polyester taffeta with a brushed-polyester collar for a softer feel. The insulation is a recycled polyester fiber. These materials have no proposition 65 warning.

Its official temperature rating is 20 F (-7 C). Note that it is hoodless but it has a top cinch-cord that should help in preserving warmth, it is visible in the picture.

There are zippers on the sides so each person has one for ventilation. The zipper design is such that you can separate the top and bottom parts of the bag, and they both can be zipped to themselves and used as two solo sleeping bags. Inside you have a small pocket, the picture below.

Who is this The North Face Eco Trail Bed Double 20 Sleeping Bag for

Regarding the best use & climate, you have seen its temperature rating, and in view of this it could be described as a 3-season sleeping bag. But it is hoodless and large, and this may affect its thermal efficiency. So I see it best suited for up to two seasons.

In any case, we are all built differently and it is best to test it in controlled conditions to get some feeling on how much it can protect you personally from the cold.

Regarding the size, both R and L options are wide enough for two adults, the width is 60 inches (152 cm). Though this is indeed less wide than some of its double-wide competitors.

Regarding the weight, the R version weighs 7 lb 8 oz (3.4 kg). I would say this is moderate for such a type, but if you need a lighter option you can check this Exped MegaSleep Duo 25 Sleeping Bag.

Regarding the price, for such a globally known brand and for a double wide bag, I would say this is a good price.

In summary, The North Face Eco Trail Bed Double 20 Sleeping Bag is a simple design, and this is a fully synthetic product made 100% of recycled materials. This is something one must appreciate.

It is large enough for two people and its temperature rating is such that is should work well in up to 2-3 seasons, dependent on the users of course. Fully recommended. I have included it in my list of best double sleeping bags for adults.
