Gregory Plus Size Backpacks

Last Modified: 04/18/2025

In case you missed it, there is a new series of Gregory Plus Size Backpacks on the market, all feature-rich and built for oversized users.

Gregory Plus Size Backpacks.

So what this is about

The Plus Size backpacks series includes a variety of standard Gregory packs with their all numerous features, but with addition of several extra features that make them suitable for users with a large body size.

They describe them as “the industry’s first line of plus-size backpacks, designed specifically for outdoor enthusiasts of diverse body sizes and shapes.”

So this is not about volumes of the pack, the series includes packs in a variety of volumes from small day packs to large backpacking packs. This is about plus sizes in apparel sense. The extra features include the following:

Shoulder harness

  • Proportions are increased, along with the shape of the contoured shoulder strap. So you have an extended length where it’s needed for maximum comfort.
  • The harness wraps over the shoulders at a wider angle than standard fit harnesses. This provides a wider footprint and a more comfortable carry.
  • Adjustment for access to the shoulder harness load lifters, this implies that the hardware is moved closer to the wearer.
  • You also have an extended sternum/chest strap.

Some of these features are shown in the picture:

Hip belt harness

  • You have extended padding and support, in addition to the extended webbing length that fits up to a 60 inches (152 cm) waist.
  • Hip belt pockets are moved forward for a quick access.

The picture below demonstrates the differences between a Plus Size harness (left) and the harness of the standard pack (right):

Torso fit

These Plus Size packs follow the same sizing as the standard packs of this brand. But they also suggest that if you are more comfortable with wearing the top of your hip belt higher than the recommended, you may consider down-sizing the torso length size.

Below you can see one small pack from this group; observe how extended padding is on the hip belt and the position of the hip belt pocket.
