Last Modified: 12/04/2023

The Snow Peak Minute Dome Pro. Air 1 Tent is built from quality materials and suitable for year round use in any weather conditions.

Key features & benefits

  • Full-coverage fly.
  • Quality fabric.
  • Vestibule.
  • Aluminum poles.
  • Nicely ventilated.
  • For all seasons.

What is in the name

Here you have a nicely designed dome-shaped tent with a vestibule on one side supported by an extra pole. The inner tent attaches to the shell. This is a dry-setup construction in the sense that the poles are from outside, so even if you are forced to pitch the tent when it is raining, the inner tent will remain dry and protected.

The picture below shows its floor plan and some dimensions. The gray area is the inner tent, and you can see it is quite wide. The tent is low and its external and inner peak heights are 116 and 100 cm, respectively.

The word Minute in the name refers to the ease of use. This should imply the setup time, but I think you will need a few minutes more.

The tent has one huge D-shaped door on its longer side, and this door is deep under the vestibule so it is well protected. The picture below shows some details.

Ventilation

Ventilation here is as close to perfection as it can be. You have the double-layer door so you can use it with mesh only. But there are also two large side floor vents, one is visible below. Note that the fly is with zippers that match these vents. So you can unzip the fly and have side windows, this is what the picture shows.

There is also a fly vent on the rear side, the picture below shows how it looks from inside, this is before the inner tent is attached:

This vent is matched by one vent on the inner canopy, it is with mesh and a panel, so you can close it if you feel cold. So in this tent you can have as much ventilation as you need, and you can close all the openings if you feel cold.

Materials

The fabric: You have a 20D silicon polyester (silpoly) ripstop fly with an inner PU coating and 1500 mm waterproof rating. The inner tent is the same 20D polyester ripstop without coating, and its floor is a 30D nylon ripstop with PU coating and 1500 mm rating.

The poles: This is a quality duralumin 7001 with a 9.5 mm diameter, there are 3 of them and they attach on one side through grommets. The rest attachment is through long sleeves and clips. There are three cross points so the structure is fairly strong. The same duralumin is used in 15 pegs that come in the package.

Who is it for

Regarding the best use & climate, this is a fully closable and full 2-layer tent. This makes it suitable for cold weather camping. On the other hand, it is incredibly well-ventilated so it is perfect also for warm weather.

The fly is full-coverage (see the picture) and the materials are of great quality. All in all, this is a tent for all seasons and climates.

Full protection in any weather.
Full protection in any weather.

Regarding the size, they describe this tent as 1-2 person. The inner dimensions are such that it is possible to put two pads on the floor. But I do not think it is best suited for such a use and I see it as a great solo tent. The inner floored area is 31 ft² (2.9 m²).

There is a front vestibule but they do not provide numbers for its size. My estimate is that you have around 13 ft² (1.2 m²) of covered space for gear. So if used as a solo tent, this is almost a castle.

Regarding the weight, they describe it as lightweight but there are at least three different values available on their sites (Snow Peak USA, Snow Peak UK, Snow Peak TW). So you will see 5.5 lb (2.5 kg), 6.8 lb (3.1 kg), 6.5 (2.95 kg). Very strange and disappointing for such a brand. So it is not very light, but see the total area, therefore the area/weight ratio which I use for rating is very good.

In any case, this is not a tent to carry on the trail. The packed size is 23.2 x 7.9 inches (59 x 20 cm). So the tent can be transported on a bicycle and a motorbike.

Specifications

  • Official capacity: 1-2 people.
  • Weight: 5.5 lb (2.5 kg).
  • Dimensions: 7.7 x 7.5 ft (235 x 229 cm).
  • Inner area: 31 ft² (2.9 m²).
  • Vestibule area: around 13 ft² (1.2 m²).
  • Packed size (L x D): 23.2 x 7.9 in (59 x 20 cm).
  • Peak height: 46 in (116 cm).

Final thoughts & rating

So this Snow Peak Minute Dome Pro. Air 1 Tent is very large if used as a solo tent, and its ventilation is simply extraordinary. The materials are high quality and the tent offers full protection in any weather conditions. Fully recommended.

Below you can see how I rate this tent against my usual rating criteria so that you can easily compare it with other items of this type:
