Key features & benefits

  • Double-wide.
  • Semi-rectangular.
  • Very compact.
  • Hoods.
  • Pillow sleeves.
  • Synthetic insulation.

What this Big Agnes Sleepy Bear 35 sleeping bag is about

So here you have yet another double-wide sleeping bag from Big Agnes. It can be described as semi-rectangular because of its slightly tapered shape. It comes with a Flex pad coupler which is a stretch construction that easily connects your bag to pads of multiple widths.

You can use one double-wide pad 78 x 50 inches or two single pads 78 x 25 inches. The picture above shows how it looks with a double-wide pad in place.

This is a very useful feature because you can roll around inside the sleeping bag without rolling off your pad. Such a design is perfect for users like me who move a lot during the night. Below you can see how this looks from the side:

The bag is equipped with a double-wide hood which adds to its thermal efficiency. Yet another great feature inside this part of the bag is its Pillow Barns that keep your pillows in place throughout the night. See how they look, you have them two side by side:

Materials & temperature rating

The bag is built from a soft-shell polyester ripstop fabric on top, and and cozy polyester lining inside, with a PFC-free water-repellent finish.

The insulation is a multi-denier and hollow-core Fireline Core synthetic insulation that provides loft, structure, warmth and durability even in dump and wet conditions. The mentioned hood is with a insulated tube along its upper opening, you have a cinch cord and a low-profile cordlock.

Such insulation and materials are easy to maintain and to wash, you can read a bit more about this in my separate text.

With all this the bag is officially with a temperature rating of 35 F (2 C). You can increase its warmth by adding a liner inside. There are interior fabric loops for this purpose.

The bag is equipped with two #5 YKK side zippers 65 inches long. These are among the best you can have. The footbox is a free-range with more wiggle room for your feet. The sleeping bag comes with a storage sack and a stuff sack.

Who is it for

Regarding the dimensions, you have a slightly tapered profile with 128 inches (325 cm) shoulder girth, and the bag is suitable for users of up to 78 inches (198 cm). So this is lots of space for two adults.

Regarding the weight & packed size, I would describe it as moderately light and very compact. The weight is 5 lb 10 oz (2.55 kg), and its compressed size is excellent (L x D) 12 x 10.5 inches (30 x 27 cm).

So it may be a bit heavy for the trail, but it is perfect to transport on a bicycle, and to be used by two people.

Regarding climate & seasons, this is a bag that will work great in 3 seasons. If you feel warm you can unzip it on both sides. When it is cold you have all the features to prevent cold drafts. This synthetic compressible insulation works well in any situation, including wet or damp conditions.

Regarding the price, it is more than fair for such an excellent product and from such a renown outdoor brand.
