Hochfeiler – Gran Pilastro: The Highest Spot In Zillertal Alps

Last Modified: 01/13/2025

The Hochfeiler hut, 2710 m.

Hochfeiler or Gran Pilastro is the highest mountain in Zillertal Alps. It is located on the border between Austria and Italy. The normal route to the summit goes from the south Italian side, and this is my only reason for placing this mountain in the Italian Alps within this site.

Monte Sobretta seen from the summit of Pizzo Tresero.

Monte Sobretta (3296 m) raises above Santa Caterina Valfurva, in the Lombardy province in the Italian Alps. You cannot miss it from the village; you see it as a huge massive which raises above the village in the southwest direction.

Platthorn and Mettelhorn - Mettelhorn seen from the summit of Platthorn

Platthorn (3345 m) and Mettelhorn (3406 m)  are two beautiful peaks in the Zermatt Alps. They raise at the north side of the Zermatt village. The reason for describing these two peaks together is because they are so close that you can climb them both at one go.

Kramerspitz

Kramerspitz (or Kramerspitze, 1985 m) raises above Garmisch-Partenkirchen in the  Bavarian Alps in Germany, in the northwest direction from the city. It is a relatively low mountain but to get to the summit you will have to climb the height difference of around 1285 m, which is far from easy. Here I describe the route […]
