In this text, I present several great Therm-a-Rest sleeping pads for women. In general, the models for women are shorter as compared with models for men, and they have some variation in the insulation (i.e., added more insulation in the hips, torso and feet areas), and change in softness in some areas, to adjust to women’s body needs.
The list includes the following pads:
- Therm-a-Rest Trail Pro for women.
- Therm-a-Rest NeoAir Xlite for women.
- Therm-a-Rest Trail Lite sleeping pad for women.
- Therm-a-Rest ProLite Plus for women.
Therm-a-Rest Trail Pro for women
This is a multi-use pad, good enough for backpacking, although it is a bit on the heavier side, and it is semi self-inflating. This implies that you have to inflate it partly by mouth. The same holds for the other models in the table. In view of its high R-value of 4.8, this is a great 4-season pad.
This sleeping pad is built of a durable material without the usual crunchy sounds that you may hear with some other pads. The body-mapping typical for women models is applied here to provide more comfort and protection.
You have diagonally die-cut foam used here. This technology is pioneered by ThermaRest, and it is used to reduce overall mattress density and weight, and to increase its packability. In this particular case, these die-cuts are at an angle with respect to the surface. This decreases the vertical flow of air between the ground and the top of the mattress. The result is a warmer mattress.
Here are some more features:
- Use: camping, backpacking, travel.
- Stuff sack included.
- Material:
– Top: 75d polyester print.
– Bottom: 75d polyester.
– Core: diagonal punched urethane foam. - Made in the USA.
The complaints of users are mainly related to the weight of this pad. This is natural in view of the robust material used here. You may compare this material with those of other pads in the table. Think about possible punctuation from the ground or from zippers on your clothes.
Therm-a-Rest NeoAir Xlite for women
The NeoAir series was introduced in 2009, and it has received numerous prestigious awards so far. It is based on patent-pending technology and heat-reflecting materials. In the Therm-a-Rest site, it is described as a 3-season sleeping pad, but its R-value is relatively high, see the table above.
These pads are extremely ultralight, as you may see from the table above. They are packable to a very small size. You see this from the picture below.
Inside the pad, you have more than 100 triangular cells in two layers. They make the pad stable. At the same time, the upper layer of these cells is designed to reflect the heat back to your body, and the lower layer insulates you from the cold ground.
A few more specifications that are not given in the table above:
- Use: 3-season, backpacking, mountaineering, hiking, travel.
- Stuff sack and field repair kit included.
- Color: lemon curry.
- Material:
– Top: 30d rip nylon.
– Bottom: 30d rip nylon. - Made in the USA.
You will notice that reviews of the users who ordered this pad through Amazon are very positive, and the average rate is 4.6/5. There are a few complaints that are more general in nature, and they apply to all models here, and this is about the fact that they are narrow.
NeoAir pads can be inflated by mouth, by using a pump-sack designed for that purpose, or by some Therm-a-Rest pumps. You may see more in the video below:
Therm-a-Rest Trail Lite sleeping pad for women
This is again a sleeping pad with open-cell foam inside, semi self-inflating similar to the Trail Pro model above.
From the table above you realize that this is an inexpensive pad, and yet with the highest R-value from all the presented models.
So this is a 4-season sleeping pad. Not the lightest one of course, but it is made of durable and reliable materials, see below. This is a women model, but suitable also for cold-sleepers and shorter men.
Some additional features:
- Use: backpacking, hiking, mountaineering.
- Stuff sack included.
- Available in 2 lengths.
- Material:
– Top: 75d polyester print.
– Bottom: 75d polyester.
– Core: die cut urethane foam. - Made in the USA.
Differences in L model:
- Weight: 1 lbs 14 oz (860 g).
- Length: 72 in (183 cm). All other features are the same as in regular size.
Therm-a-Rest ProLite Plus for women
This is my choice number 1 due to its medium price, high R-value, weight, and the quality of materials. So this is an all-season ultralight pad for women and for cold sleepers shorter men. Inside, you have a patent-pending diagonal-cut foam channel which are designed to give extra insulation from the ground, similar to the Trail Pro sleeping pad.
Some additional features:
- Use: backpacking, mountaineering, hiking, travel.
- Stuff sack included.
- Material:
– Top: 50d mini Hex Rip polyester.
– Bottom: 50d polyester.
– Core: urethane foam. - Made in the USA.
