The material of Patagonia Torrentshell is 50 denier ripstop nylon. So it is rather sturdy and durable in particular in comparison with some other ultra-lightweight rain shell jackets presently available on the market. For such a material it is still very lightweight, only 12.2 oz (345 g).
The design is such that you can wear a lot of insulation underneath the jacket. So you can use it practically in all seasons. On the hem, on both sides, you have adjustability cord with toggle.
In the video below you will see the structure of the front zipper, with a 3-layer storm flap.
The collar is just good enough, not more than that, it has a fleece on the back, you can see it in the picture below. The film on the membrane, inside the jacket, works well indeed and it is pleasant to touch.
The hood is of good size, very compatible with a helmet, and it has three adjustability points, two on the sides of the face, and one on the back. The brim is laminated and very effective. It can be rolled away, as you can see from one of the pictures below.
Two zippered pockets are on the sides, and the jacket stows into its left side pocket. So you have it nicely packed for carrying in the backpack or attached somewhere because it also has a loop for such a purpose. In the video below you will see how the jackets packs into its pocket. Note that the pockets are not a mesh material like in many jackets of this type, in fact, they are fully waterproof.
This is a very breathable fabric, and yet you have good size pit zips for an increased ventilation, see the picture above. On the cuffs, you have velcro tabs for adjustability, no elastic. This is good enough and effective.
Note that there exist also Torrentshell jacket for women.
The 2.5-layer H2No Performance Standard waterproof and breathable fabric is also water-resistant, treated with a DWR (durable water repellent) finish. It repels light rain and snow, and it also decreases dry times.
It keeps the outer fabric from becoming saturated, and this helps the breathability of the membrane. As mentioned above, the membrane is protected from inside by a pleasant half-layer film.

Pros & cons, users experience
Many have reported about the reliability of this material, which will certainly keep you dry even after many hours in a heavy rain.
The material is more durable than many other jackets from the same rain shell group. But this is one of those jackets that make noise.
You have two pockets outside, I would not mind having more, you never have them too many.
Amazon customers have rated this jacket exceptionally high. It has received 4.5/5 average rate. See my rating below:
