Patagonia Nano Puff Hoody for women is one of the most popular insulated jackets available on the market. It is very lightweight and extremely packable, suitable for any activity in cool weather.
Key features & benefits
- Very versatile.
- Incredibly packable – into its own internal pocket.
- Insulated jacket.
- It maintains warmth even when wet.
- Soft yet durable fabric.
Patagonia women Nano Puff hoody is a versatile piece of garment which you will use in the cool or cold weather all the year around whenever the temperature drops down. It is an ideal tool to use in your backpacking and hiking adventures because it packs so nicely into its internal pocket.
This is an insulated jacket but very breathable and with PrimaLoft Gold insulation. In exceptionally cold weather conditions you will use it as a mid layer under your hard shell jacket.
The shell is with traditional rectangular stitched baffling in the main body, visible in pictures, and with some different baffling under the pits. This quilting pattern is there to stabilize the insulation. A very durable thread is used for abrasion resistance.
You have simple elasticized cuffs and a dual-adjust drawcord hem to seal out cold wind and to preserve in warmth. The hem drops a bit on the back. On the front, you have a full-length zipper. It is without external flap as you can see from pictures, but you have a wicking interior storm flap, and also a zipper garage at chin for next-to-skin comfort.
The style of this jacket is such that it allows for some light layering underneath it. Being all-synthetic, it dries quickly when washed or when becomes wet in rain, and it will look like new when washed and dried. It requires no maintenance and keeps its shape regardless of what you do with it.
There are three of them, two handwarmer zippered pockets on the sides, and one internal zippered pocket mentioned above which doubles as its own stuff sack.
So packed, it has a carabiner clip-in loop to attach it to the backpack or to your climbing harness to keep it at hand and use when you need it. You can see it in the picture.
The hood and collar
As the name suggests, you have a hood, rather simple in style, without any adjustment elements, and with a stretchy material around the face. So it is rather low-profile, it fits nicely and comfortably around the face, and it will also fit under any climbing helmet.
The collar is very pleasant and high when you zip it completely. This all is visible in the pictures below:
The Nano Puff jacket is breathable. You have seen many stitches on it; so, these really help its breathability because air passes easier there than through the insulating material (though this also makes it less warm).
But it is far less breathable than the other celebrated model from the same brand, the Nano-Air jacket. Just bear this in mind if you need a tool for extremely aerobic activities.
The jacket has many nice features but the hood is not adjustable, the cuffs are only with elastic, no Velcro tabs or snap buttons. The fabric’s surface is smooth and it is such that it fits greatly under any shell jacket. The pockets are deep and warm. I really love the fact that it stuffs into the pocket.
Insulation and materials
What you have here is the best ever insulation produced by PrimaLoft brand. You should know that they have Gold, Silver, and Black series. So this is the best of the best. This insulation is used by several top brands in this industry. The main features of the Gold insulation are:
- water resistance,
- warmth without bulk,
- high compressibility,
So you have 60 g Eco insulation with 55% postconsumer recycled content, wrapped in a 100% recycled polyester shell and liner. It maintains 98% of warmth even when wet. This is a material with a DWR (durable water repellent) finish. Note, about the PrimaLoft Gold you can read a bit more in my separate text.
The fabric is Bluesign approved. If you are not familiar, the Bluesign Technologies is a Switzerland-based organization which provides independent auditing of each step in the textile supply chain. So they approve chemicals, processes, materials, and products that are safe for the environment, for workers, and for the end customers. Patagonia is an official partner of the Bluesign network from 2007.

Pros & Cons
Here is my summary:
At the moment of writing this text, the price of the Nano Puff Hoody is around $200.
The weather resistance is not its best features; this is primarily due to its stylish and iconic stitching which is all over the jacket. It looks really cool and has its purpose of keeping the insulation in place, but these are the places where the water can penetrate easily.
The fit as expected statistics by Amazon customers is really high, 83%, and the average rating is incredible 5.5/5. See below my own rating:

So to conclude this Patagonia Nano Puff Hoody for women review, this is an incredibly versatile and reliable piece of garment, suitable for any outdoor activity like climbing, hiking, backpacking, skiing, and for day-to-day use in cool days at home. This jacket is built to last long time, and although the price looks steep, there are good reasons for this, it is definitely worth the money. This is an Eco-friendly jacket, and I can recommend it to anybody.
If you are undecided about a hard shell jacket which you would use as an external layer together with this Nano Puff Hoody, please visit my page with jackets for women, there are many great models presented there. I would warmly recommend the Torrentshell jacket from the same brand.
Note that there exists also Patagonia Nano Puff Hoody for men, with the same features.
