Foray pants – description
This is a lightweight piece of garment that will protect you from whatever Mother Nature throws on you. I would describe them as a great item for any outdoor activity, like hiking, backpacking, cycling, fishing, and for around-town use.
In general, it is good to know that Paclite is lightweight and very packable construction, ideal for hiking and other activities where weight and space are critical. Outdoor Research company claims that the Foray Collection is their best seller, so there must be good reasons for that.
The waistband is elastic and with a draw cord. You also have loop attachment points on the waist, for suspenders if you use them. They are visible in the picture below. On the sides are 3/4-length water-resistant zippers, see the picture below, so the pants can be removed easily, no need to take the boots off. Needless to say, such long zippers allow you to regulate ventilation very effectively; note, these are double zippers, so you can open them from any end.
The pants can be stowed in their own back zippered pocket visible in the picture above. This is a very practical and convenient solution. This is the only pocket you have here, and the zipper is water-resistant.
On the cuffs, you have elastic plus a snap button, I love to have both of these features here. You can open the zipper to get extra ventilation, and keep the snap closed so that you can walk normally. There are also internal loops at the cuffs for adding instep laces if you want to use them.
You will notice that the pants have a gusseted crotch and also articulated knees, the legs are with a tapered design, so this all looks stylish and it also increases mobility and comfort, and the pants fit nicely under gaiters.
The fit of the Foray Pants is standard and it allows for base layers and hiking pants to use under them. They do not restrict movement even if used in that way.
Pros and cons
The fit as expected statistics reported by customers on Amazon is very good, no less than 82% were satisfied with the fit. I would warmly suggest reading the reviews.

So to conclude this text about the Outdoor Research Foray Pants for men by stressing that these pants can be nicely combined with yet another piece of garment from the same series, OR Foray jacket described in this site. In such a combination, and with some good waterproof boots, you will not think about weather conditions. This is my own style of dealing with elements, both at home and in my tours in the Alps.
I have been living in Belgium in the past 17 years, and we have rain here almost daily, but I have never used an umbrella. I do not have any. I use waterproof pants and jackets all the time.
