Osprey Ariel 75 pack for women is an enormous backpack designed specifically for women’s body. With 75 liters of volume, this is still a very lightweight tool for extended backpacking and mountaineering tours and expeditions, with plenty of great features so typical for Osprey.
Best price & place to buy
- The best place regarding the price and shipping conditions is usually Amazon.com.
This pack is both top loading and front loading. So you have a classic lid on the top. Beneath it you have a collar with a cinch cord, plus a compression strap with a buckle.
The lid is floating and also removable, and it is equipped with its own straps, so that you can use it as a rather minimalist summit pack or a small day pack.
The front access is through a J-shaped zippered entrance. You also have a bottom zippered sleeping bag compartment. There is a divider between the two compartments.
The pack is hydration compatible. So you have a hydration sleeve behind the harness, in other words, you have an external access to the water bladder. This is a great design because the water bladder does not take the space from the main compartment.
Compression straps run over the bottom compartment and you can attach a sleeping pad here. Two extra compression straps are also on the front of the pack, you can see them in the picture above. This allows you to store extra gear, or just to cinch the pack in case of less load inside. These two straps are horizontally positioned so you can use them to attach various pieces of equipment, like sleeping pad or sleeping bag, or even skis.
There are attachment loops on the lower part of the front and they are accompanied with bungee cords higher above. They are visible in the picture.
Of course, here too you have Osprey’s stow-on-the-go system: attachment loop on the shoulder strap accompanied with a loop on the side of the pack. This is to temporary stow your trekking poles when you need free hands to take a photo or just to eat or drink something when you are on the move.
The suspension of Ariel 75 pack is based on:
- an HDPE panel,
- a peripheral aluminum alloy light wire frame, and
- a single aluminum center stay.
With all this the pack is only around 2 kg of weight, dependent on the size, which is an incredible achievement for the pack of such a huge volume.
The back panel is Osprey’s Airscape system with ridged foam and spacer mesh. You have air flow channels, one vertical and several lateral, they are here to help with cooling and back ventilation. You can see them in the pictures.
Everything here can be customized, the pack is made in three different sizes. You can also choose between different sizes of the shoulder harness, and the same holds for the size of the hip belt. You can choose all this separately, so adjustability cannot possibly be an issue with this pack.
But this is not all, within each of these combinations you still have torso length adjustability. So you can move the harness up and down to have a perfect fit. You will be able to see this in the video below.
The hip belt is custom moldable as well. This means that in time it adjusts to your body and takes its shape. This is what makes it quite unique.
This is a large pack so load lifters which you have here play a great role in the adjustability of the pack. The shoulder straps are anatomic and nicely padded to fit women’s body. The space between the two shoulder straps is more narrow as appropriate for this specific women’s design. The same anatomic structure and padding is on the hip belt and in the lumbar area.
The sternum strap is adjustable both horizontally and vertically, and it is with an emergency whistle.
You have one zippered pocket on the lid, with the access from the back. Two nice zippered pockets are on the hip belt.
On each side of the pack you have one exceptionally and unusually long stretchy mesh pocket. They are so deep that you can put tent poles there. They are accompanied with compression straps that can go through the pocket (if you just want to cinch the pack down), or over the pocket (when you want to fix the stuff carried in the pocket). These stretchy pockets have access from the side (for water bottle) and from the top (if you put some long objects in the pocket).
There is a large stretchy mesh pocket on the front of the pack, and you have a buckle to secure it on the upper part of the pack.
