Columbia Bugaboo interchange jacket for women is a great and popular example of a 3 in 1 system. This is a versatile waterproof and breathable jacket suitable for hiking, backpacking, skiing, and for around-town use.
Why you would want this jacket
- This is a typical 3-in-1 jacket system. Outer shell and internal fleece can be used
separately, and they can also be used together.
- Due to such construction, this is an all-seasons piece of garment.
- It offers full protection in any weather conditions.
- Both jackets separately look great and fashionable.
Best price & place to buy
- The best place regarding the price and shipping conditions is usually Amazon.com.
About 3-in-1 jackets in general, I have written elsewhere within this site. This kind of jackets I have been using for many years now, so I have a lot of experience with them. There are many advantages of using such a jacket, and this particular Columbia Bugaboo is not an exception. You indeed have 2 jackets here, and you can use them both separately and together.
The outer shell is a typical rain jacket with a pleasant Columbia’s Ultra Touch external fabric, with their Omni Tech waterproof membrane below, and a free-hanging mesh inside. So this is an optimal combination, the mesh is a very pleasant material on touch, and this is of importance when you wear the shell jacket without the internal fleece jacket, with a T-shirt or a polo shirt with short sleeves. I have a jacket of the same type.
The front zipper is with a storm flap, one feature which I particularly love to have, you can see it in the first picture above. The hood is adjustable and removable, large enough to use with a helmet, see the picture above. It has 3 adjustment points: drawcords on both sides of the face, and a velcro tab on the back.
The cuffs are with velcro tabs for adjustment, there is no elasticity there.
The internal fleece jacket is Columbia’s Dotswarm Full Zip 220 gram material, see the picture above, warmer than average fleece due to their patented thermal-reflective technology. It is designed to reflect around 20%-35% of the body heat back to the body. But it is at the same time very breathable. Its design is really great and you can wear it separately in dry conditions.
You can see more about the technology used here in this nice video from Columbia. See how the internal reflective layer reflects a laser beam:
Pockets: On the shell jacket you have 2 zippered hand pockets, and one internal zippered pocket on the chest as well. The fleece jacket is with its own hand pockets, with zippers in the new version and without in the earlier versions.
